335 Tasting Notes
It smells like houjicha. So I thought, well it must taste like it. No, it doesn’t. It isn’t the worst tea, but I couldn’t drink the rest of my cup. I went by brewing guidelines via Den’s Tea for kukicha. His instructions were brew for 30 seconds with boiling water with 2 rounded tsp for 8 oz. If this brewed longer, I don’t think I would like it. It’s roasted barley like and not tasty. I do like green kukicha, just not this stuff.
Preparation
This is my first real experience with oolong. I know I have had this type of tea before in different Chinese restaurants and bought it bagged. But this is the first experience where I know I am having it!
I received an ample sample of this tea from wombatgirl. It’s pretty bold, caramel and fall in a cup. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Chicago wouldn’t tell me the brand of tea they used. Looks like I don’t need them.
The 2nd infusion is very very weak. I don’t think this tea in multiple infusions, which is a shame. Still, a nice dark brew.
Preparation
Floral it is, like a fried zucchini blossom. I loved the name, so I had to try it. It gets more vegetal when it cools. Just a nice cup of green tea. The leaves are pretty with light dusty spots, motted. Doesn’t have that much of a aroma dried, very nice when brewed though. Can be brewed a couple times. I can’t really compare it to another green tea, it’s just has something different about it. There’s no astringency to this tea, too.
Preparation
Mmmm, it’s so tasty. So light and elegant. It’s affordable for a white tea. 50g has lasted me for awhile. It’s my nighttime brew. It’s so pretty to look at, the photo shown is exactly what you get. Those colors are inspiring, almost seaweed like colors. The tea does transport me to the beach for some reason, would be tasty with some toro tuna or yellowtail. I’ll be sad when I hit the bottom of my bag.
Preparation
I got this iced at the store, and wow! It’s so nutty and tasty. I would adore this warm, too. This is a tea for converts from coffee world that miss their amaretto lattes. I think I will need to buy some loose next time I’m at the shop. It has a strong note I couldn’t pin the flavor done, but all and all, a lovely tea.
I would say this is more a fruit tea than an actual tea. It’s from a tea shop in Decorah, IA. I was in the area for vacation, and didn’t have time to eat there, so I bought two different blends.
The blood orange was one I got. I finally got around to brewing it. It smells insanely delicious. Looks like it has passion flower in it possibly? I brewed it to ice it. It tastes too fruity for me. I would of liked more tea in it. Might taste better served hot. Glad I tried it, but it doesn’t taste as good as it smells, which is a true shame. I noticed that with fruit teas sometimes.
