The food and the tea – top notch and delicious. Everyone was sweet as pie. A picture and a description of the food here:

A few caveats: this place is popular for showers, special occasions, and little people parties. If these sorts of things are not your cuppa, Sundays are probably not your best bet. Also, when we were paying, we noticed a “Tea Party” donation basket where you could buy a pin for the “cause.” This is one cause I wholeheartedly do NOT believe in, and no amount of good food and tea would make me betray my principles and go back.

Utterly charming to visit (really cool Old New York shoppe), but I haven’t had a tea that I actually enjoyed from their selections. Maybe I’m missing something!

If you love scones, this is the place! The pumpkin scones were the best I’ve ever had. I had a pot of the Phoenix Dessert Blend tea with them, and it was so delicious that I had to take a few ounces of tea home with me :) I also had the steak salad and it was great.

Beware: It’s very cutesy and if fairy wings, Alice in Wonderland murals, and mismatched china are not your thing, you might not feel comfortable. Also, best to go on an “off” time to avoid lots of children if you are looking for peaceful tea sipping (I went around 5 on a sunday – perfect!)!

Excellent, extensive, unique selection of loose leaf teas. Knowledgeable staff, owner often in house and very helpful. Beautiful teaware! I look forward to every visit.

I love to cook, bake, read, paint, knit, do needlework, and garden. I need my coffee, but I LOVE my tea. I work at an Art School, and attend a large public university doing post-bac work (my BA is in English). I’m interested in the liminal spaces between art and craft, the academic and the practical, the individual and community, and the old and the new. I’m currently exploring these ideas through the disciplines of education, literature, history, and psychology.

I enjoy writing tasting notes, but have decided not to numerically rate teas as of 9/14/10. For an explanation, see my looooong tasting note about Mountain Malt from the Simple Leaf.

My favorites:
Chinese black teas
A good “milk and sugar” English style black
Earl Grey (classic, and in all variations!)
Vanilla teas (classic, and in all variations!)
Jasmine, Rose, Violet and other froofy, flowery teas!
An Occasional Oolong
Flavored Rooibos
Herbal Tisanes
