I like to stop in to this shop when I’m on my excursions to Powell’s bookstore. It’s easy to find and right down the street from that mecca of a bookstore.

This place is fun for a lot of different reasons. First off, they have a large selection of really unusual teas. I brought back a bag full of random stuff and have liked almost all of it.

Second, their boozy tea concoctions are delicious. I had some crazy tea infused martini and was delighted I could stand up after I was done drinking it.

Next, in their lounge, they also serve food. Some of it is as weird as their boozy tea drinks, but also really tasty.

Last of all, the service. The folks who work here were spectacularly nice to my friends and me.

If I’m at Powell’s, I’ll be stopping here.

This is a really adorable little tea shop. The owner, Margie, is very nice and gives you just the right amount of attention.

I wandered in last Saturday around noon and the place was empty. However, as I sat there sipping a delicious apple caramel black tea, many other people wandered in. They all seemed to know the owner. She made everyone seem very welcome.

I had a green salad with walnuts, cranberries, bleu cheese and this spectacular raspberry vinegarette. It was delicious, too. It was also $5. My pot of tea in its charming little tea cozy was $3.

Steeped in Comfort also does some traditional high tea kinds of service as well. They were baking scones right there in the shop and they smelled delicious. These items didn’t appear to be expensive either.

So, I’m taking my mom there for Mother’s Day tea, which is notably more expensive, but seriously. It’s my mom. She’ll love it.

I recommend you give this little place a shot. It’s worth the time.

I stumbled into Mad Hat Tea a couple Saturdays ago right when they were opening. I could have spent all day just going through the mountains of spectacular tea varieties they carry. Instead, I sat at the counter and had a lovely cup of I don’t even remember what. What I do remember is that I had a genuinely delightful chat with one of the owners, Maureen. The shop is charming and eclectic. The tea I purchased was reasonably priced and tasty. I’m in love with their Insomniac’s Delight. I will definitely return.
