Jasmine Pearls

Sipdown! Another one from the selection box done and dusted. I’ve reviewed this before, and I don’t really have anything earth shattering to add this time. It’s a nice, fragrant, delicate tea, perfect for afternoon sipping and frazzled nerves. Not one I’d keep around all the time, but nice to come back to every now and then.

Colour: Very pale yellowy green
Smell: Fresh Jasmine

Sips tea What a lovely and refreshing example of a nice jasmine green this is, especially for pre bagged. Very fresh tasting and very much jasmine tasting but without bitterness or being too over the top. Green tea is not very strong but I like the subtleness of it all.

Even after half of the cup has gone it still tastes subtle and fresh and it’s super duper relaxing. :) Bliss in a cup.

In college, the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was a staple on campus – despite multiple Starbucks locations that were more convenient, because of course we had to go here to get the tea. A friend introduced me to the Jasmine Dragon Tea Latte, the very idea of which appalled me until I tasted it. Then I was hooked.

I have not figured out how to make a tea latte yet, but I’m always happy to see a jasmine tea, and this was no exception. This is one I’d buy to have a quick and easy bagged jasmine on hand.

teapigs advent, day 11

teapigs 2020 advent calendar, day 2. Needs more flowers. =) Nice fragrance, but gets too bitter, too quickly. I would blame the preparation if I hadn’t been so careful about the water’s temperature and the steep time. I’d also be happy to give it another go—just in case I goofed—if they hadn’t included just the one tea temple in the box. =)

This was pretty weak. The jasmine flavor came through a little, but it largely tasted like water. Maybe this is because these teabags contained less leaf than others from Teapigs. Also, according to the label, it’s 99% green tea and 1% jasmine flowers, so maybe they need to increase the jasmine flavor in future batches.

Although enclosed in tea bags, this jasmine tea is not finely cut leaves, but fuller, high quality leaves that have been rolled into “pearls”. There are pros and cons to selling these quality pearls in teabags. Teabags are more accessible and inclusive to the average tea drinker, therefore less daunting than loose leaf, if one should fancy a change from the standard black tea. Therefore, these teabags are great for introducing newbies into the wonderful world of good quality tea. However, the teabag isn’t quite big enough to let the pearls fully unfurl and agonise without over steeping. Luckily though, you can actually buy this as loose leaf from the Teapigs website! They taste really good, with just a hint of green tea being detectable and a very strong, pungent jasmine flavour, that has an incredibly dry finish.

THIS IS SO BLOODY GOOD the quality is excellent and of course loose leaf is preferred but THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR BAGGED LET ME TELL YOU

So I was v excited for this tea to come in the mail! I was sick a couple weeks ago and needed some peppermint tea, so I was all “What tea company have I not tried yet??” And Teapigs came to mind! Last I checked (like a year or so ago), Teapigs didn’t ship to the US. Well, they did but shipping costs were a pain. But then, I saw that they actually had the usual “spend $50 and shipping is free” deal!!! So yes. I got Teapigs and spent $50 on this, my peppermint, and a sampler pack just to get free shipping :)

This jasmine is okay?? I’m a huge fan of jasmine and so far the best jasmine I’ve ever had is David’s Butterfly Jasmine. This one seems a bit too week to my liking. An okay jasmine, but I prob wouldn’t repurchase. I’ll def try their other teas though! I have plenty more to try since I did get that sample pack :)

Another one I forgot to remove from my cupboard a while ago. If I’m remembering right, this was the first time I tried a jasmine tea, a flavour which I still love. Despite my usual indifference to/slight dislike of green tea, I can drink it all day when paired with jasmine. For now, I have a few better loose jasmine greens, but when I first tried this, it was mind-blowing to me. The jasmine isn’t so subtle the green tea overpowers it, but it also isn’t too strong that it’s offputting or perfume-like. A delicate and tasty match, overall. Possibly my favourite of the Teapigs teas I have tried.

I have a box of this, loose-leaf, and it really was the tea that turned me on to drinking leaf-tea.

I just love it. I’ve only had two other jasmine teas in my time, but this one is such an easy-brewing (and extremely forgiving), deliciously floral tea. It’s exactly what I want from a Jasmine Green.

It works well as a ‘mug’ tea with a basket (I tend to use a generous 1 – 1.5 tsp in ~300ml and brew it for two mins or so) or as a more refined, lots-of-short-steeps tea (again, I’ve used ~1 tsp in ~150ml and brewed for 30-45 s at a time). It does get very bitter if you oversteep, I should add, but this isn’t a problem I tend to encounter.

I love this as an everyday Jasmine tea. The jasmine is delicious and strong, without becoming cloying or excessive. And the green base that they use adds a really nice floral, fruity undertone that just rounds off this great, bargain tea.
