Bodum Stainless Travel Press from DAVIDsTEA

Bodum Stainless Travel Press

It’s hard to improve on a teacup, but sometimes a little innovation goes a long way. Take this sleek and stylish travel mug, made of durable, BPA-free stainless steel. It’s got vacuum-sealed double walled construction, to keep your tea hotter longer. And the colourful silicon band makes for a heat resistant, non-slip grip. Plus it has a built in plunger, with a fine mesh filter to keep your tea leaves safely tucked away. Now that’s our kind of technology. Dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.

Pluses – Great size, keeps tea HOT. Comfortable to hold onto. The part that covers the sipping hole snaps on nice and tight. I can leave the press part out and just use it as a perfect sized mug (since I prefer my tea somewhat lukewarm, this is perfect for me!). I also love the silicone grip. Looks nice, very durable, holds the perfect amount of tea for me.

Negatives – The lid/press is in one piece (cannot remove the press portion) and doesn’t screw on tight unless you are VERY careful with it. It’ll seem like it’s tight but then when you touch it again, it’s spun loose (like it didn’t lock in) and you have to tighten it again; sometimes it will lock on, sometimes it won’t. I’ve almost burned myself twice from it coming loose/popping off.

I’d say if you want hot tea, and being able to drink right from the container isn’t a big deal, look at the Tea Canteen instead.

I hope this was just a faulty mug. I wrote to DAVIDsTEA about this one, and they’re sending me a replacement. I’ll update my review when I test out the replacement.

((EDIT))
Kristina (who is fantastic!) at David’s customer service team sent me a brand new mug, and the lid goes on tight! I can now drink hot tea without even a drop spilling. First one definitely a fluke. Would buy another one if I ever needed.
