From Zhi Tea

Our organic jasmine green loose leaf tea was chosen for its well-balanced flavors. Jasmine blossoms are folded into the drying leaves several times to impart their delicate scent.

Jasmine flowers are picked early in the day when the small petals are tightly closed. The flowers are kept cool until nightfall.

In the early evening when the flowers begin to open, The green tea is blended with the jasmine flowers and stored overnight. The night blooming jasmine flower then opens and releases their fragrance into the tea.

It takes four or more hours for the tea to absorb the fragrance and flavor of the Jasmine blossoms, this process may be repeated for as many as six or seven times.

A slightly more subtle jasmine essence which does not overpower the depth of the high quality green tea. This balance creates a round yet assertive cup full of the intoxicating scent of jasmine with the groundedness of the full leaf green.

Mild, easy to drink, and full flavored.

In my Foodzie tasting box, I received samples of two teas from Zhi, this one and the Turkish Spice Mint (I’ll be brewing that one a little later). Unfortunately, they were shipped in the same package, so I am tasting some of the mint and spice in this tea, and so I don’t think I’m getting a true representation of this tea. Therefore I won’t rate it numerically.

The green tastes light and has a moderate vegetative taste to it. The jasmine is sweet and floral, but not overwhelming or soapy. And as I said before, I can also taste hints of the mint and spice here.

I will be reviewing this more fully, together with the Turkish Spice Mint tisane on my foodie blog: http://hungryinportland.wordpress.com (It will appear tomorrow afternoon)

The green part of this tea is nice and smooth. Mellow with a touch of hay on the end. The jasmine is present in the scent, but just barely there in the taste. I don’t get that soapy taste that I have found in some jasmine teas, but I’m not getting much jasmine either. I like my jasmine bold, not shy. Kind of a bummer cause if they upped the jasmine it would be excellent.
