Black/Green Exotic Fruit

It smelled a little like Cherry Blossom at first but then nutty aromas popped thru followed but citrus along with black tea and green tea sniffs.

The black tea and green tea blended base is pretty good. I would say it’s a tad more green tasting than black tasting. Then the floral and fruit notes come thru. Then the nuttiness. Then more fruit, then more floral.

This is pretty good but I can see how if over-infused it might get that stale floral taste or a little too-grassy-green or something.

Oops. I wish I had known there was almond flavor in this before I made it. I’ll at least give it a shot but I don’t know what it is about almond flavoring in tea that I just can’t stand. I love almonds by themselves, whatever else, but in tea I can’t stand the flavor.

In here it comes off a bit more like amaretto rather than the flavor I hated in DT’s Secret Weapon, but I still don’t like it. I wish I knew what these exotic fruits were, but such is what usually happens with ZenTea teas. The fruits are so exotic they are unknown. There’s orange, and there’s berry. Other than that I can’t specify even what berry. My first sip was almost raspberry, but raspberries aren’t very exotic.

Off to the swap list it goes too. Hopefully it can find a happy place to finish its life with someone who likes amaretto/marzipan flavors. For me it just sticks out way too much to be enjoyable. If it wasn’t for that, I’d enjoy this. I’m having it iced and other than that, it’s pretty good and refreshing.

I was emboldened by my earlier success to go ahead and try the other teas from this company. This one I chose because the description noted almond in the addition to the fruits. A quick search yields that it is being sold under the name Pearl of Fruits by a couple of other retailers.

The dry leaf smells pretty much like generic tart fruit candy. I can also get a fairly distinct orange note from it, but not much else. Steeped, it has definitely mellowed, and now I do get a light nutty aroma joining the fruit (which is not so much orange now, more berry-ish). The flavor is pretty pleasant. Is it an almond/fruit blend that can stand up to Dammann Freres or even Harney’s Boston? No. But it’s drinkable, which is good. I’m not sure which “exotic” fruits are supposed to be in this—the description just mentions berries and orange—but they are melding together in a way that is difficult to tear them apart. I was hoping for maybe a bit of florals but I am starting to think I should know better with this type of tea; the fruit flavoring completely obliterates any florals that might have been. There is definitely a nutty, marginally marzipanny almond to this, but it doesn’t seem to work perfectly with the fruit flavoring, and kind of sticks out a bit. I can’t really taste much of the tea base, for better or worse. Overall, not a complete failure (like the unfortunate “Jasmine Lemon”/Macabeo), but not one I’d reorder.
