Si He Zhai? Never heard of it? That’s because it doesn’t exist. Our Si He Zhai (aka Four Harmonized Villages) tea cake is a blend of tea from four different villages, entirely from Spring 2016 first flush tea leaves!
Si He Zhai is a powerful tea that is intended for longer term aging. It has bitterness and astringency, but this is balanced by a textured, filling and lubricating mouth-feeling that stays with the drinker well after the tea session has ended. The aroma is strong and pungent and on a warm day will fill the room with it’s nectar-like aroma. Being from old arbor and wild arbor tea trees the leaves are thick and stout and hold up well to multiple infusions. Stone pressed in the traditional manner, dried with low temperature drying process, individually wrapped in Dai minority hand-crafted paper and then meticulously packed into bamboo leaf tongs for collection and long-term storage. Si He Zhai is a powerful blended tea cake composed of high quality material but priced affordably for those who wish invest in high quality tea.

Yunnan SourcingReally good! Received this as a free sample with a recent order in early 2021. The dry leaves separated easily and still had a dark green color. Rinsed 5 sec under hot tap water then 5 sec with boiling water. Used an unglazed Yixing clay teapot dedicated to raw Puer. Brewed up to a deep golden liquor with vanilla notes in the first few steepings, pleasantly brisk, floral, sweet, rich, chewy and complex. Not smokey, absolutely no fishiness or hints of earth or compost. By steep #5 the large leaves had fully expanded to their deep green glory revealing also some large stems. Vanilla aroma in the first steep only, after which the aroma was pretty flat. On steep #6 I’m still enjoying the now slightly floral taste and briskness (astringency) with something else—tobacco?. Supporting the claim of being from wild trees, there is no discernable assamic character. But I’ve noticed a lingering very nice molasses-like flavor on the back of my tongue. Steepings have gradually lengthened, and #7 went on for ~3 min. and was still quite flavorful. I think I may invest in a cake or two of this one!

The tea had a pretty strong bitterness in the front of the sip – vegetal, almost in a broccoli sort of way (I love broccoli). After this though, there was a long and very sweet huigan. It reminded me of cucumber and honeydew melon.
Definitely seems like one that could age well with all the bitterness and the nice body it has.

It is my second try. first time i tried it about 6 months ago. it was pretty good then and improved even more now. The soup was sweet and thick, slight pleasant bitterness, zero smoke and quick huigan. it was good pushed at later steeps. went thru decent amount of steeps. it was very enjoyable session.
