Buddha's Hand "Fo Shou" Wu Yi Rock Oolong Tea * Spring 2016

Wu Yi is a favorite of mine. I will order those I haven’t tried but a few I keep in stock and this is one of them because I like the roast. Not burnt, just right.

The soup is rich with a distance fleeting note of the sea. Otherwise sweet and fruity.

I got 50g of this tea so I’ve had a pretty good chance to try out this tea. If you brew this tea hotter then you get a lot more of the smokiness and if you brew it cooler than it honestly doesn’t put forth much flavor. The front notes are quite smoky like charcoal but followed with a pleasant fruitiness. This is not a super complex tea but it is an extremely enjoyable daily drinker and I think that it is an extremely pleasant experience.

Brews a light orange and emits a very cinnamon-y sweet and spicy aroma. The flavor is very complex; its strongly mineral, strongly fruity, somewhat spicy, and a little roasty. Notes of ripe melon, underripe citrus, wet rocks, toasted barley, nuts, and warming spice. Strong, fruity lingering aroma in the mouth. Later steeps are less fruity and aromatic with prominent woody notes. There’s a marine backnote that becomes more noticeable as you brew on, something like dried shrimp that might sound unpleasant but is actually quite nice.

Overall very nice and a good place to start with my shipment.

OK, so I have looked at others notes for this tea in other years, and I don’t know if 2016 was that much better, but I definitely give it a very high rating! I found this tea rich and complex. Nose; Peaches, rich, soup like, slight blood orange, melon, plantain, buckwheat, walnut, allspice. On the palate, it has an interesting beef consumee ( not sure if I spelled that right ) like base from which arise flavors like peaches, walnuts, buckwheat, strawberry, with just enough tannin to give it backbone, wonderful full mouth feel, holds up over at least 7 steepings. I think it is unusual for this type of tea so it might not be for everyone, but if you like different, try this one.
