From Yunnan Sourcing

This is expertly fermented black tea was crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from Feng Qing area of Lincang prefecture. This wild tree varietal grows wild in the mountainous areas west Feng Qing township near the Da Si village at an altitude of 2000-2200 meters.

Ye Sheng "野生“ varietal aka “Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam.” is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occuring non hybridized varietal. It’s potency in cha qi arises from it’s unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent, grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

An very lightly wilted and processed tea, the green in the leaves is still present and the tea soup is a golden yellow color, much different from the Dehong Wild tree black tea that we also offer. There is a hint of fruit, chocolate and barrel aged rum in the taste and aroma. An exquisite experience!

An incredibly rare tea, only 60 kilograms in total production!

This is an excellent tea. It has a strong note of malt. There are some other notes in there too, not sure how to describe them. This will be a good tea to drink before work. It seems to have some of the elements of a breakfast tea.

I steeped this one time in a 16oz Teavana Glass Perfect Tea Maker/Gravity Steeper with 3 tsp leaf and 200 degree water for 3 minutes.

My 100th review! Yay I’ve made it :D

I drank this one western style last night while I was studying cause I had no time for gongfu and it was delicious so the very next time I had time to drink gongfu I went for this one (I’m gonna drink a lot of tea today, It’s been a stressful few days) It’s quite a different black from the usuals, I’ve only ever had one other purple black tea and I didn’t really get to be in depth with it because it’s my friend’s and I’m excited to get gongfuing,

I’m brewing at 95C in my 120ml gaiwan, the gaiwan is maybe half full of leaf

the dry leaf aroma is very floral with fruity notes of blueberry and blackberry, lots of woodyness and some earth.

The early steep aroma is pretty much the same as the dry leaf, just a bit less fruity

I get notes of potato, grape, blueberry, with a nice medium-thickness body that goes down with a long lingering fruitiness and a slight pleasant sweet sourness, it’s also slightly reminiscent of wine, it’s very very sweet, I don’t get any bitterness or astringency, there’s the tiniest bit of astringency actually, I’m getting a tiny bit of chocolate too, the blueberry notes actually sorta taste like chocolate covered blueberries, floral notes finally show up around steep 6 or 7 in the aftertaste. It’s not the most complex tea, but the flavours are really defined and delicious.

it fades off into like thick grape juice tasting tea, it’s awesome.

I enjoy this lots, it’s actually a really good deal too, it may be a bit boring tasting for people who know more about purple teas, I mean I don’t know anything.

I don’t think I’m going to rate teas anymore it feels.. wrong

A very refreshing and sweet black tea. Oxidation is on the lower side. A strongly fruity tea that reminds me of plums and eucalyptus. Slightly mineral and floral, there’s a yammy/sweet potato note and a sweetness a bit like marshmallows. It’s a sweet potato casserole tea!

I think I’m feeling a bit of qi off this tea, a relaxing, steadying sort of feeling. I guess that makes this a magical sweet potato casserole tea!

I drank this tea the other night and rather unexpectedly the poet/romantic in me went nuts over it . . . It smells so sweet and enticing, like plums and night. There is something mysterious and sensual about this tea. Dark and wild, with a lingering fruit aftertaste. Slight bitterness at beginning of sip goes away instantly and goes away completely after a couple of infusions. The leaves are black in color when dry, then turn red and brown with some green when steeped. I would call this tea heady. Maybe this is the mysterious cha qi I hear whisperings of . . . anyhow, if you cannot already tell I enjoyed this tea very much.
