A rare example of aged Wild Tree (野生茶） Purple varietal tea! Made from Big Snow Mountain material from Mengku county in Lincang!

Nicely dry stored and very clean taste. Still has some bitterness after all these years, but is followed by a nice hui gan and pungent thick feeling cha qi!

Fascinating tea. Not like anything else I’ve tasted recently. Agree that it’s got a bit of a soapy taste, with a thin body.

That said, there is no noticeable astringency or bitterness at all. Even if you really beat this tea up it responds only by becoming more weird, but not more astringent.

Not my style, but I’ll definitely use the rest of my sample as an example to my friends of how “different” semi-aged raw can be.

The tea itself is impeccable. The first rinse was so clean I drank it.

It is a very different tea! The purple variety feels thinner and is more bitter than the usual stuff. The notes are sharper and more soapy than fruity and floral. Luckily this has mellowed down a bit, but could still have more body and depth. Make sure you know what this kind of tea tastes like before purchasing a whole cake.

Finishing off another sample here. I’m not sure why I have this tea… I bought the sample along with a number of samples of oldish Yiwu from YS, but don’t remember deciding to buy it.

There is a lot of bitter in this tea. Beyond that there is still some green feeling in later steeps that leaves me thinking that it could stand to wait some more time before drinking, but maybe that’s puple buds that will never smooth out. There is strength too though, and something interesting about how the astringent mouth feel in later steeps turns into fruit fragrance on the tongue.

I won’t be buying this again, because I’m looking for more smoothness, and also I think the price is high for what it is, but reasonable people could differ about that.
