Huang Mei Gui (黄玫瑰) aka Yellow Rose Oolong tea is a Wu Yi Mountain grown tea varietal that is a cross between Huang Jin Gui (黄金桂) and Huang Dan (黄旦). Unlike an Anxi Oolong, the tea was grown and processed entirely in the Wu Yi tradition. Roasted 4 times with “rest” periods of up to two months in-between roastings, it was not offered for sale until 5 months after harvest (first week of May).
The taste is smooth with a floral notes that creep in as a kind of floral sweet hui gan. Thick and sweet with a pungent feeling in the mouth, but with basically no astringency makes this tea very interesting to drink. Goes many rounds without losing energy.

Yunnan SourcingThis was my second wuyi from Yunnan Sourcing and it’s quite different than others I’ve tried in the past. I would describe the flavor profile as wood-spice and black licorice. It has a thick mouthfeel and a sharp cinnamon taste that really hits your palette. I don’t get the floral notes that YS describes. Not a bad tea, but just not my style of yancha due to the pungency and heavy spice flavor.

This is my sort of wuyi oolong. Really really smooth, very well roasted with lovely floral taste, basically a perfect description from the website.
Not harsh or overcooked, not astringent, the floral thickness melds perfectly with the roast and hangs around. Nice qi, i feel tingly all over but not shaking or anything.
Maybeeee some chocolate but not really, it really more nails the nature vibe that I love from oolong with really decent balance..
The body has a nice ‘grey wood’ image, kinda thick & muted & soft. Invokes lovely images of the magic of china, mountains, trees, nature. Hits my imagination circuit big time. Teamancer
On about steep 7 now and its beginning to weaken but im still not even on 30 seconds
Probably the nicest yancha ive had from YS for a smooth floral taste..

The warmed dry leaves smell of chocolate and malt with a hint of flowers and cinnamon. The first brew is a floral explosion with a solid backbone of spice and minerality. Over the next few brews the sweetness, roast, and spice notes really picked up as the florality slowly faded. Really thick and smooth mouth feel with great cooling sensation. Not overly roasty – warm and toasty is more like it. Got eight very solid brews from it. Looking forward to really sitting down and evaluating it.
