From Yamasu Sugimoto Shoten

This green tea powder is made from the finest Shizuoka tea leaves. Shizuoka Prefecture’s tea is among the top three teas of Japan, prized for its beautiful color. This powder turns the drink into a lovely translucent green with a subtle fresh and earthy flavor and is ready to drink immediately after mixing. Like matcha, this powder does not completely dissolve in water as the particles are actually finely ground tea leaves.

Happy weekend! :D

I have a packet of this that came in one of my Bokksu Japanese snack subscription boxes. I believe it’s a powdered sencha?

In any case, I prepared it as I would a matcha milk. First observation: it does not dissolve as well as matcha. Perhaps it’s less finely ground?

Wow, it’s so savory! Definitely more on the side of umami rather than sweet. It’s also a bit bitter and a touch grainy.

I added a squeeze of some maple agave I had in the cupboard. Yummy, the maple goes so well with the savory flavors and the agave adds a bit of sweetness to bring it more into balance.

This as certainly interesting. I have a bit of the powder left over, so next time I’ll try it as the intended iced tea.
