From white2tea

2022 Moon Bear doesn’t really fit neatly into a genre box. Not exactly raw Puer, not really white tea. Whatever you want to call it this Yunnan tea performs like a smoother version of fresh raw Puer with unique bright aromatics and a supple soup carrying savory flavors.

We didn’t intend to make this into a mainstay, but after an appearance in our tea club and severe arm twisting from our lovely members, the Moon Bear is back.

Gongfu!

I seem to recall there was a lot of hype surrounding this white tea when it was first released as part of the W2T Club and I have to say that, based on this tea session, I totally get it. It’s a bit on the lighter bodied side of things with a very smooth but delicate creamy profile. Notes of vanilla custard, sweetened condensed milk, and just a smidge of a lightly floral white grape freshness that weaves throughout the sip. Makes me think quite a bit of White Rabbit candies, which is honestly so nostalgic and delicious. It was not the experience I expected to have this morning when I pulled this sample out, but it was a very welcome one!!

Oh I’ve seen White Rabbit candies in some local shops but haven’t tried any yet. I bought Milkita candy instead.. which is pretty yummy.

In order of strength: Raspberry Lambic, Champagne, White Grape Skin, Sugar

Wet Leaf aroma is pure Lindemans Framboise (Raspberry Lambic Beer). On the palate there is tart wild berry, champagne, white grape skin, and creme burlee far into the distance on the after taste. Moon Bear is my favorite teacher of the potential evolution of tea as the session drags on. After many steeps all the fruit and alcohol disappears and all that is left is pure white sugar. Cha Qi is happy and laxed.

Unfortunately the cake leaves a lot of potency in its profile to be desired, contrary to the sample I had before the cake purchase.
