Fujian Zhangping Light Roasted Shui Xian Cake

I got this tea only to try because I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. When I first opened the package I was immediately greeted by a very pleasant and fruity smell, so my expectations for the taste where quite high. I put the entire cake into my Gaiwan, boiled up some water and the smell coming from the wet leaves was just as good as the smell of the dry leaves. The first steep (the rinse) was very light in taste and had a light liquor colour. The later steeps got darker and the taste change from a very fruity and honey like taste to a more dark, nutty taste. I was able to steep this tea 10 times and all of them were very nice.

Dry leaf smells flowery-lilac? Half of cake to gaiwan. 1st steep at 15s – lightly roasted. Wet leaf smells sweet and flowery, honey. Rasting honey, creamy, light roast. Further steeps adding 15s to each one. Continued to get flowery sweetness with creamy mouthfeel. I ended up getting 11 steeps out of the tea. Soft, but distinct in flavor. I could continue with the leaf for longer if desired.

I finished the other half of the cake this morning and I have to say I had a nice repeat of this session. Floral, creamy, sweet and light roast. Very happy with the purchase of this tea.

Wow, this makes for an awesome morning. Same notes with one extra one and that note is a strong Pear note. That is practically the flavor along with the florals and intense creaminess. I really am on the greener side of oolongs, though my love of some Darjeelings, Qi Lans, and Dan Congs won’t end. I’m also not getting tired of this one any time soon. Wish I had some more.

This tea is delightful!

I really like the balance of the sweet, floral and vegetal. When a tea strays too into that green/veg taste, or maybe too umami its generally not to my liking. This was balanced with a thick almost pearlescent petal taste & aroma that really tasted good to me. With perhaps just a hint of soft nuts over the top of it, culminating in a very beautiful experience.

Multiple steeps were rewarded well, and the (half of a) cake unfolded nicely as I progressed, It never veered into ‘too green’ territory, was always soft and lovely. slight creaminess.

Really very nice. The balance is extremely well done. If there was a tiny touch more nut it would be incredible, but the fact it was there in the first place made it extra enjoyable.
