This Huang Zhi Xiang Dancong is picked from Huang Ruiguang’s favorite high-elevation plot in Wudongshan from older tree stock and meticulously hand finished by Master Huang’s sons over 24 hours to bring out the deep, almost electrifying aromatics. Huang Zhi Xiang is an incredibly rich spiced varietal with natural cooling notes that come through with striking intensity with the perfect microclimate, careful hand-picking, and 24+ hour continuous hand processing and finishing. Only a few kilos are harvested every year, and we are excited for the privilege to share. Master Huang’s work in Dancong tasting and agriculture has won him countless awards and recognition, a biography in a 2015 published book on the history of Dancong, and leadership in every convention and tasting event in Guangdong. Though he is mostly retired, he still works with his sons to produce limited quantities of fine teas like this one.

Very unique smell and flavor! Orange blossom descriptor on the website is spot on. Actually everything about this tea is orangey. Should this be surprising? No. This tea varietal, Huang Zhi Xiang literally translates to “orange blossom fragrance.” What an apt name and another super intriguing tea from Verdant!
No bitterness or astringency. Trace sweetness. Strangly warming at first, with a cooling and refreshing aftertaste. Mouthfeel is crisp, zingy, and juicy. Aftertaste is tingly like you just bit into an orange and lasts 4 minutes at least (I timed it haha). Quite the sensory experience! Longevity is 6-8 infusions.
Really a wonderful tea. Is it worth $0.80/g? I think the opportunity cost is quite high there. I’ll stick with their Mi Lan Xiang for now. Curious to see if the other Dan Cong samples I ordered can hold a candle to that one ;).

I seemed to be able to do better brewing this one. It is light and delicate, but the flavors are definitely there and it is a fuller less thin tea than the other dancongs that i have tried. Nose and palate are very similar with sweet orange, celery, osmanthus, rose, roasted barley, and delightful peach on the finish. Backward ( the flavor seems to be stronger on the back of the palate ).
