From Verdant Tea

Who doesn’t love a good Moroccan Mint every now and then? We took the classic and rebuilt it from the ground up. Why use a smokey green like gunpowder to pair with sweet peppermint? We use our favorite Laoshan Village green, rich and buttery, with sugar snap pea flavors, a natural hint of mint and brown sugar. To boost the body and build a solid foundation for sparkling mint we add burdock root, and draw out the sweetness with fennel and spearmint. This is an unbeatable comfort tea to serve hot or iced.

Ingredients: Autumn 2011 Harvest Laoshan Green, Peppermint, Burdock, Fennel, Spearmint.

Thanks to Verdant for including a sample of this in my last order

I don’t normally go in for minty things because they can aggravate my heartburn but I really did like the flavor of this one… it’s got the buttery sweetness of the Laoshan green plus the mint is very refreshing to me this morning.

I steeped mine in the Gaiwan with around 175 F water. I used a lot of leaf and got 4 steeps of it and counting. I used short 30-60 second steeps and those were fine. It’s a very nice blend, thanks David!

Oh yes this is hitting the spot, a perfect summer after dinner tea! The rich creaminess of the Laoshan Green is coming through clear and is well supported by the mint and fennel, both of which are very refreshing. I think I may even appreciate the Laoshan Green more in this form and its my favorite of the blends so far (okay so the prototype grey and it are tied). I would definitely reorder more if it was available but am looking forward to trying the new Laoshan Apothecary Green and the Bergamot Rose as well as to cold brewing this one, but for now, several steeps lie ahead.

I love Moroccan mint teas so much, they are hands down one of my favorite iced teas. I don’t know if I’d go for this as an iced tea every time, but it certainly is a breath of fresh air from the usual mint greens. I love what the Laoshan green adds to this, since usually I find it’s just your usual green and some peppermint. This is creamy, buttery, and tastes like green beans before we even get into the other components! Definitely an upgrade in flavor.

I find the addition of the other herbs to be very intriguing, it gives it a bit of a spiciness.

This is a nice change from the usual Moroccan mint. Like I said, I wouldn’t want this all the time because it just tastes like something you have to save for when you need something different than the usual. I’ll be cold brewing the leaves from this steep for tomorrow!

When I have the money to make this my minty green tea all the time maybe so :) then I’ll also take the money to have a car that gets twice the pictures on the curvy roads, a car that allows me to open the drivers side window so I can make sure they know it’s a woman driving it at that!

Yeah! I’m with you on that!!! (You can’t believe the years of dumb “You can’t pick up that weight” I got in the weight room from buff guys who were miffed that I could lift more weight than them, and guys that were certain that I couldn’t help them with their computer problems especially in the 80’s and 90’s.

Before my group of car friends all lost their IQs, I could keep up with them as I found it to be safe (now, no way) and they were always like, oh that was you behind me? Oh yeah it was. They seem to forget I learned to drive on curvy roads, and curvy roads do not care if you are male or female, as two guys learned this weekend the hard way.

I’m glad you only sent me a cup of this, because all I’m tasting is a peppermint tea, with a nice creamy/something else aftertaste. Perhaps my steep time wasn’t optimal or something, I don’t know. Can’t really taste the green tea. Oh wait… I think the aftertaste is the laoshan base + creaminess, actually. Which is nice, but this is far, far too pepperminty for me. Which I expected, but wanted to try anyways, because I’m like that. This probably is deserving of a mid 80s rating, if I liked peppermint, but I don’t, so I’m not rating it :P

I forgot all about this my Verdant box. The last of the Alchemy Label Blended adventure. I bought this because I love mint. I really love mint. I used to have a mint addiction that was serious and embarrassing. So embarrassing that people I work with used to hide their Altoids from me…lol. I have since kicked the mint addiction and have been off the white powder that is peppermint Altoids. I now only drink mint in teas or in chocolate.

Anyway back to the tea. Earthiness with mint. I did not really get the raw cacao form the Autumn Laoshan Green but then again I was consumed by the mint. The fennel was a nice touch as well. The wet leaf I smelled more of the chocolate earthiness from the Laoshan Green then when I drank it.
A great tea indeed. If you like mint, it is a nice refreshing cup of tea. I drank it for dessert.

Hmm, this isn’t bad, but it doesn’t seem that different from your standard Moroccan mint tea either, aside from the addition of fennel, which I approve of. I was still getting a lot of char flavour as is typical for a gunpowder base and none of the buttery notes that should be there with the laoshan green. I’m not a huge fan of the gunpowder flavour profile, so I would have been quite pleased if this were a bit different.
