From Upton Tea Imports

A Fujian province classic congou, with smooth character, delicate hints of chocolate and subtle smoky nuances. This style of tea was imported into the American colonies in the 1700s and was the famous Bohea tea of the Boston Tea Party.

I opened up this sample this morning. I’ve had it since 2008, but Upton’s bags keep tea fresh for ages so long as the package is unopened and kept somewhere dark and cool (like, say, the back of the kitchen cabinet). This tea was still wonderfully fresh and aromatic. The scent reminded me strongly of a Keemun black — very perfumey (in a good way). The taste was a little smoky and a little sweet. It’s a very nice example of a Fujian tea. I liked it quite a bit. I’ll definitely be finishing the sample. I wish I had more…
