I went to a Tasseomancy class earlier today with Marika (tasting note for that to come later) at Thesaurus Therarium – a new(ish) teahouse here in Montreal that’s pretty fandom-y in nature. Of course, after the class, we had to browse their tea selection and nab a couple different teas each…
This is one of a handful I picked up. It’s obviously a Winter Soldier/Captain America reference and, as much as I’m a lover of Marvel, I’ve never really gotten into Captain America. However, I love a good pun and the composition of the tea itself really appealed to me. The dry leaf does smell really appealing. Very fresh and wintergreen heavy with a crispness and a sweetness to it.
Steeped up, the flavour is understandably softer than the thick and piercing aroma that comes off the dry leaf. However, despite a subtler delivery the actual notes themselves are still well represented. Wintergreen first and foremost but supported by equally refreshing and cooling peppermint and a hint of slightly more coarse grassiness from the Gunpowder green tea base. Y’all know me and what I’m gonna say about green tea, but honestly it works here. It gives body to what might otherwise be a richly minty but thin profile. Plus, it’s almost like a fun twist on a classic Moroccan Mint composition – and I am a sucker for a good wintergreen tea.
