From Tealux

Golden Lion 1st Flush 2010 Assam is a nice bold semi-strong black. Beautifully made peak season tea leaves with an abundance of golden tips. This tea produces a bright and very smooth tea liquor with a full body, silky mouth feel, and a hearty and particularly sweet tea flavour.
If you are looking for a good old standby black tea – plain and simple – try this one! It’s perfect for mid mornings, midday lulls, or great with friendly conversation.

I was contacted this morning by the lady that I got Ebony and Ivory from a while ago now. She said that her cat has just had another litter and a new black male kitten is available if I would like him. She was so very sorry about Ebony’s passing that she made sure I was the first one she would ask. Well after many tears and a long chat with my husband we agreed to adopt the little man. We are waiting for news on his age and a picture but it gives us a chance to think of a name for him. So far in the running are Sooty and Loki. :)

…………………………………………………………..

This arrived last week with my first Tealux order. Assam is usually a morning style tea for me but my husband requested a black tea tonight and this one has recently been put into a clean jar ready for use.

In appearance the leaves are golden brown in colour and look long, thin and squiggly. They have a musky, wooden scent with a delicate hint of sweet malt.

The first few sips reveal a smooth yet creamy Assam of medium strength with hints of wood, musk, malt, dark treacle and raisins. It’s a little dry in the after taste but not much at all.

As it cools the sweetness increases and it gains a subtle velvety smoke trait.

A nice Assam not too dissimilar from golden Dian Hong. A winner for me and the hubby.

Awwww kitten! My vote is on Sooty. :) I once knew a dog called Loke, so far me in terms of pet names that’s a dog-name. :)

Dry leaf aroma: Malty sweet with a hint of pipe tobacco.

Wet leaf aroma: Alfalfa.

Preparation: Brewed western style in a ceramic infuser mug.

First/only steeping: 3 minutes at 200 degrees.
Pleasant malty molasses aroma with a beautiful sable liquor. While hot, the undertones are pure malt and molasses. This Assam definitely stays true to its bouquet! As the cup cools, a sugary astringent aftertaste develops.

Notes:
This was a delightful Assam to start my day and I hope to be able to keep this one in stock, which is saying something for someone who has so much tea!

So, boys and girls, Scheherazade’s Super Sipdown (Long) Weekend is underway! This is the first, and hopefully by Monday evening I’ll be back under 300. Say yay!

I enjoyed every cup of this. It’s deliciously malty, but it has slight elements of smoke that counteract some of the inherent sweetness. There are some cocoa notes, also. I said pretty much everything I had to say about this one in my first note, but it’s a wonderful assam that I’ve really enjoyed having in my cupboard. A sad farewell.

i hope you make it! good luck!
