From Tealeaves

This velvety combination of bright and flowery Ceylon with passionfruit, pomegranate, and vanilla has become a favourite blend of those with an appreciation for fruity palates.

Once you fall through the rabbit hole and discover this tea, there’s just no turning back! Taking all who crosses its path on fanciful flights of the imagination, Mad Hatter’s Teaparty is a deceptively chaste name for a rather passionate tea that is a great complement to decadent desserts and eccentric companions.

This blend, comprised of medium-bodied Ceylon tealeaves, is scented with the essential oils of natural fruits – passionfruit, pomegranate, and vanilla. These oils are added after the tealeaves have been fully oxidized and dried, complementing the distinctive taste of black tea with their characteristic flavours.

The key aspect for the blend is found in the proper vanilla natural oils, and in using lighter liquoring Ceylon black tea so as not to subsume the balance of the flavours. This also makes a great iced tea simple sugar syrup!

Our Ceylon black tea is made from tealeaves that have been fully oxidized, producing a hearty, deep, rich flavour in an amber-coloured liquor. It is the oxidation process – that is, oxygen coming into contact with the enzymes in the tea leaf – that creates black tea. Black teas, as a whole, have a fuller and richer flavour than unprocessed green teas.

I tried this tea while I was on vacation at Disney World (managed to snag a reservation for afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian!). It had a delicious aroma, very fruity with a touch of vanilla. As for the taste, I found it a bit dry for the first cup or two. But the brightness of the Ceylon complimented the fruit notes well, and when I added a little sugar to the third cup, it enhanced the sweetness and improved the flavor. So I’d recommend drinking this tea with sugar, or some other sweetener. Overall, this was a sophisticated black tea that went well with sandwiches and pastries, which made it a great choice for afternoon tea.
