From Teabox

This is one of our first muscatel offerings from the 2013 Second Flush season. Goomtee is a regular feature in our catalogue and has been widely accepted by our customers. The leaves were specially plucked from a section 2-6 of ‘Muscatel Valley’ that is known for producing sound muscatel teas and is located at an altitude of 1500 meters. Plucked during middle of May where the season was the area had an excellent weather conditions – just the right amount of rain and sun. This tea leaves has hint of spice and is of jet black in colour. It starts off on a strong note and leaves a strong after taste too – even after multiple steepings. A must try muscatel tea of the season.

Gomtee Tea Estate is a beautiful garden located between Jungpana to the East and Castleton to the West with a glorious past consisting of multiple owners. Henry Lennox, a British pioneer, was the first to start planting teas in this garden back in 1899. Darjeeling Tea from Goomtee, is processed in the traditional “Orthodox” way – breed and harvested at an altitude of over 4500 ft combined with excellent harvesting methods, this has ensured quality of pure china tea leaf. These distinguished teas are often sold marketed as Muscatel Valley teas.

Meh, this is a pretty middle of the road Darjeeling. No real muscatel notes that I picked up, just that sort of spiced, ashy taste I sometimes get from Darjeelings. I’ll try it again with slightly cooler water next time. 93C seems to be my sweet spot for Darjeelings.
