From Tea Thoughts

In collaboration with Shafa Blends, I’ve created my very first tea blend for the shop! This tea blend is meant to be a collaboration to express my identity through a Persian type tea blend with a fellow Iranian owned shop.

Deltangam – is a saying in Farsi that means “my heart is tight” but is used to express longing for someone or something. In this case, it’s longing for a home I’ve never known, Iran.

This tea blend includes black tea with bergamot, rose petals and pieces of ceylon cinnamon.

I am ashamed to admit that I have had this tea in my cupboard since it was released (around December of 2022 I think) and had still never tried it until today… Oops? Nazanin has just released her third tea blend (Joon), and I think that was probably on my mind as I was selecting my first tea of the day.

So obviously, it’s been sitting around for almost 2.5 years, so the flavors are probably more subtle than they originally were. But I can still taste the citrusy bergamot, a touch of rose, and subtle cinnamon. It’s a very nice if somewhat unexpected combination – I don’t know that I’ve had cinnamon with bergamot before, though Prince Vladimir’s clove is pretty close. The cinnamon also gives it a lovely sweet aroma. Thankfully the rose is gentle enough that I still enjoy it, even though it’s not a floral that I generally like.

It’s a very aromatic and refined black tea blend that I could see being lovely for the afternoon. Someday soon I’ll have to order a new bag and actually drink it while it’s fresh, heh!

A tea from Kaylee, thank you! Which, I accidantly preprared probably too strong.
I got 6 grams, maybe even a bit more… and decided to brew all in 300 ml mug, with short steep. That was two-three mintues long.

Well, it WAS strong. Suggested 5-7 minutes would be definitely too much. It was strong in taste too, but I managed to notice bergamot, a little peppery rose and cinnamon. I thought there was also the clove, but it seems it was the rose and cinnamon together making this feel. But the flavours were working well together, so yes, I can see a chance trying this once again, if I get the chance to get it.

I have enjyed it, but as I wrote, it was a bit too strong in all flavours, so… a little sad face here. But on the other tea, another tea down (though not a sipdown, as prepared all at once).

In the garden catalogs, I sometimes see roses for sale that are listed as having a clove scent. Oerhaps this was a peppery, clove-y rose!

2024 Sipdown Challenge | August | A calming tea

Really enjoyed this fragrant blend! I don’t typically love bergamot, but I really enjoy it here with the complementary rose and subtle cinnamon notes. This tea actually straddles the line between two prompts: It’s both a wake-up tea and a calming tea! I find the floral elements quite soothing, so I went with that prompt.

I’m sad to run out of this one and will probably pick up another bag the next time I order from Tea Thoughts.

Right before I left for vacation my recent orders from W2T and Tea Thoughts arrived. I managed to sneak in a cup of Nazanin’s first tea blend, Deltangam, in my new W2T teacup before leaving; it was so rich and aromatic with cozy, warming notes of cinnamon alongside heady rose and a very floral-leaning bergamot!! The rest of the haul will have to wait until I get back to be explored, though of course it’ll be competing for my attention with all the tea and teaware I’ve accumulated while here in Vancouver and Victoria…
