In the highlands of Hualien in Taiwan, Mr. Huang cares for a vast field of chrysanthemum flowers alongside patches of ginger roots and hibiscus trees. Neither spraying nor weeding are permitted on his farm – his pastime is getting to know the various insects and animals who visit.

Like its tiny flower buds, this tea is naturally sweet and gentle on the palate. Like its keeper, its infusion is calming and comforting like a thin blanket on a breezy summer night.

Happy Lunar New Year! Marking the occasion with this Taiwanese herbal, which I honestly thought I’d previously written a note for but the tea wasn’t even in the Steepster database! I find this tastes like a slightly savory chamomile. Not quite a buckwheat note, but that same kind of cozy grain quality. Which is just a nice combo for trying to unwind on a rough day: sweet, savory, grainy, cozy, and a touch floral.
