From Taiwan Tea Crafts

If this tea is a benchmark for things to come this spring, we are in for a very good season! This very first green tea of the season is vibrant, as expected, and the tonic that everybody is looking for after the year(s) we’ve been through. For those familiar with Taiwanese Green teas, this would be considered the classic green tea of Taiwan. Its history and popularity is linked to the western export trading houses that were looking to propose Chinese-style teas sourced from accessible areas around Taipei back in the days where dealing with the mainland was more problematic due to the Sino-Japanese wars, civil war and the ensuing establishment of the PRC. Even if historically this Bi Luo Chun shares the same processes as its reputed counterpart from the North, this tea has evolved to become a truly distinctive tea that is undoubtedly Taiwanese. Made from very young pluckings of Qing Xin Gan Zhi sourced from the hills south of Taipei, our Premium selection is made by a long-standing tea-making family that have produced tea in Sanxia district for several generations. They produce tea year-round from leaves supplied from hundreds of growers in the surrounding hills. This pre-Qingming Lot 1102 is from a production made the second day production started and sourced from pesticide-free gardens. If you like Wenshan Bao Zhong or high-mountain oolong you’ll be in familiar territory for the sweet and thick buttered green beans accents with the the flowery and balsam freshness of High Mountain Oolongs. The texture is smooth and silky with very mild astringency. A very refreshing, yet sophisticated tea for hot summer days and your daily dose of summer sunshin- in-a-cup for rainy afternoons.

A mediocre green tea. I got the Spring 2022 harvest of this tea as a free sample from my TTC order. It didn’t really speak out to me in any way, with it wholly being mediocre as a whole. It was nice enough to not be disappointed, but lacked a bit in many areas.
