Remember our “For Phoenix” Oriental Beauty made from Caopintou (草坪頭) area? This place is commonly known for its “Yushan tea,” however it is not even close to the entrance of Yushan’s trail. This season, we finally met a farmer who have been growing his tea at a hill way above Caopintou. This farmer is a passionate indigenous man Mr. Wu, and he grows some of the most remarkable material at this elevation range.

The inspiration to visit and meet Mr. Wu was a random one. We were just testing our tea at our roasting master Mr. Zhuang’s place. During the conversation Mr. Zhuang mentioned about Mr. Wu’s existence again (he mentioned about him before), and out of curiosity we made a call to see if Mr. Wu was home. Turned out he was, so without hesitation we hopped into our car then drove for about 50 minutes to meet him at Dongpu, where he lives. Dongpu is a place famous for its hot spring, and a lot of mountaineers will spend a night here after they came down from the peak of Yushan mountain.

Once we met Mr. Wu he pretty much allowed us to process his material instantly thanks to his hospitality, so to the creation of this tea. The reason why we named this tea “Amber Samber” was due to the event happened at the tea processing night. Indigenous people are allowed to legally hunt in their ancestor territory. Our friend Mr. Wu and his couple friend naturally went for a hunt that night while we were processing the tea. They brought back a enormous samber on the back of their truck leaving us in awe. Seeing this samber truly was a remarkable event at that night, so we think this tea could be a tea to commemorate the samber and the power of nature.
