From T2

Exceptionally unique, carefully cultivated and delicately handled, this is the highest grade of Japanese green tea. Stunning glossy emerald-green, needle-like leaves expand and transform when brewed to reveal tender young green tea shoots. A vibrantly bright infusion with an almost fluorescent green tinge produces a sweet and rich aroma and a wonderfully thick, creamy body. Complex flavours, including baby spinach, fragrant flowers and savoury grass combine in a refined way from start to finish. Stunning in looks, taste and feel, Gyokuru is a sweet, smooth sensation that lingers.

There is no way that this tea was really a Gyokuro. It didn’t even taste like it was Japanese! Broken leaves made me question if this was half-way to becoming a Matcha, but really it was just T2 over-charging for a low-grade sencha.

On my first taste of T2 Gyokuro, I found the sharp taste overwhelming and a little too bitter. However, after brewing at home and taking care with brew time and temperature, I found this tea to be delightful. It has a rich, robust flavour with a slightly sweet aftertaste and hints of roasted rice in the aroma. If you are not a fan of strong flavours or green tea this is certainly one to miss; if you enjoy a strong green tea without bitterness, this is an ideal candidate. Brew time is essential to the flavour of this tea, however, as it becomes bitter very quickly.
