Steeped tea really needs to have recommended amounts of tea per cup for each individual tea and not just per type of tea. When I first tried this tea, I used 1.5 tsp for my cup (recommended amount for herbals) and the spice was so incredibly overwhelming I dumped it out. However, after trial and error, I discovered that 1/2 tsp per cup is perfect. That’s because this tea is just chunks of spices (ginger especially).
With that being said, the taste of this tea is of course, spicy. As mentioned in my tasting note on Hot Yoga, the only time I drink teas that are prominently spices is when I’m sick. I never really drink Zingy Ginger just straight though: I always mix it in with teas like lemon myrtle or peppermint. One thing I appreciate about this tea as opposed to Hot Yoga is the fact that all of the spices are whole so they are evenly distributed (Hot Yoga has some whole spices and some ground so the ground spices settle to the bottom which is annoying).
Once this tea is gone, I do not know if I would repurchase. Yes, it is a good tea to mix with others, but my favorite loose leaf spicy tea is Super Ginger from DAVIDs which is similar enough to this tea that I would purchase it over this. Other than super ginger, I think I prefer bagged teas for spice teas because I know the ingredients will be evenly mixed. Thirdly, the fact is that this tea is expensive ($10/50g or $17/100g!) and it is JUST SPICES. I can easily cut a tiny piece of dried ginger from my spice rack and throw that into my lemon myrtle tea instead of using this tea.
I think I will continue using this tea up by mixing it in with other teas when I feel sick, and that will be it.
