From Spirit Tea

Four years ago in Wuyi we inquired with friends, the Zhou family, if they had considered making their Qi Lan cultivar as a black tea process. Though they had not at the time, they were willing, for future harvests, to devote a portion of their garden’s tiny yield towards that purpose, provided we purchased the lot in advance. Year after year, we were too late, too short on funds or lacked conviction. Finally, this year, we were able to realize the exclusive microlot. As you will taste, the result was well worth the risk. Notes of Summer Squash, Toasted Buckwheat and Hyacinth.

Watch our presentation on the Zhou Family and their Qi Lan garden for Barista League: High Density.

It’s either overpowering in qi, or perfect. Had this as my first tea after some coffee. Same notes, but more oolongish. Orchid, fruit, grapefruit, citrus, light malt, grain, honey. So good. I’m going to miss this one before I send it off on it’s swap journey.
