Shincha means new tea and refers to the very first picking of the 1st Flush harvest in spring. The Sae Midori tea bush varietal is prized for a rich and smooth umami flavor and a vivid green infusion color. Sae Midori has about 2% more L-theanine than Yabukita and many other Japanese tea varietals, making it very refreshing and stimulating. This batch of Shincha was harvested in Kagoshima at about 450 meters above sea level on April 18th and is a Chumushi, or mid-steamed tea with a vivid green infusion and smooth flavor.

The Sae Midori from O-Cha is my favorite Sencha. I have tried a lot of different green teas but i always come back to this one. The Sincha is also very good, i like my teas to have a sharp taste so i use 5 grams per cup. This could be a little too much for someone that prefers a lighter taste.
Was it any good? I was curious about their 2 shinchas (well, this one and…Nishi san 1st flush)
It was good, nice richness and umami. Didn’t really think it had the depth/complexity I’d want at the price they are asking though ($21 for 50g). Much preferred the O-Cha Sae Midori (price and quality wise).
Yeah, that is quite expensive; at least, at that level it needs to be good. I’ve found them (Rishi) to be on the generally more expensive end of things.
