From Red Blossom Tea Company

One of China’s tea famous teas, Pi Lo Chun (Bi Luo Chun) comes to us from the imperial tea gardens of Dong Ting Mountain, a mountain in southern Jiangsu Province. There, the tender tea leaves sprout amidst peach, plum and apricot blossoms. Each tender leaf is down-covered and are picked while they are still diminutive shoots not more than 2 centimeters long. They are then pan-fired in several steps to remove the oxidizing enzyme, twist the leaves, and bring forth their natural down. High quality Pi Lo Chun are coated with a fine downiness.

Its white downy sprouts – individually hand-twisted – brews a mildly sweet liquor, with a creaminess and fruitiness that is unique only to this tea.

Water Temperature: 175°, or when very small bubbles appear on the water’s edge.

Brewing Instructions: Use 1 tablespoon (double for a medium sized pot). Rinse tea for 1 second. Discard rinse water. Steep for 1 minute. May be infused multiple times.

A soft, smooth, and subtle green tea with hints of apricot. This is a great tea to ease you into your day, or into your bed. Red Blossom does such a great job with their vast selection of green teas, which are always so bright.

I’m very bad at describing teas, but I got this one not long ago at their store in San Francisco’s Chinatown. It’s so yummy! Very light with a nice mouthfeel, it reminds me of the very first ‘nice’ tea I tried, which was a Silver Needle. I don’t know if this is the correct terminology, but it has a nice earthy minerality to it. My second steepings sometimes have a bit of a lemon-y, citrus taste as well. Delicate. Delicious.

Wonderful green tea, I have had mine for 7 years and am now running out. Smoky peach-apricot flavor. No flavor change over seven years, due to limited access to light and heat.
