We are excited to offer a wonderful early harvest Huang Jin Gui oolong from Anxi county of Fujian Province. This is the first oolong to be harvested for the spring season in Anxi, home of some of China’s most famous Oolong teas. The name of this particular tea cultivar is Huang Jin Gui, which roughly translates to “Royal Golden Turtle.” (FYI: Some refer to this particular tea cultivar as “Golden Osmanthus” in English)
Huang Jin Gui has a distinctive smoothness and a more pronounced and lingering “Hui Gan” (aftertaste) than some high grade Tie Guan Yin oolongs from the same region. It posesses lovely & distinct floral overtones, but this tea is less overtly “Lilac-flowery” & bittersweet than the high grade Tie Guan Yin oolongs that we offer. A true treat that was harvested in late March, 2009. Not to be missed!

It an interesting tea that starts out with a floral flavour when the tea is hotter and then as it gets a bit cooler it takes on a deeper, and more well-rounded flavour. The floral notes fade and the tea takes on a sweetly buttery flavour. The feel of the tea in my mouth is very smooth and pleasent. As the tea cools some more the floral notes come back slightly along with a honey-like sweet flavour.
The resteep (@ 5 min) is less floral and has more of that honey flavour. It was an enjoyable oolong and I liked that it wasn’t as flowery as some other green oolongs can be.

It’s greenish-yellow in color and the taste is thirst quenching and sweet. At first sip it almost tasted like ‘toast’ but then morphed into a sweet and buttery delight!
