From New Mexico Tea Company

A superb fresh morning tea. Malty notes from the Assam, flower-like hints from the Kenya with delicate wisps of oiliness from Anhui.

Hooray, got a small order in from NMTC, so the cupboard doesn’t feel quite so bare now. This was a little sample they threw in. It tastes very much like English Breakfast, but a bit lighter and mellower. It’s fine enough, but probably not going to become a staple around here.

I am wondering why a tea company in presumably New Mexico is stocking something called Canadian Breakfast. Lighter and mellower, hmm. Perhaps they are aiming for the tea version of a Tim Horton’s coffee.

Tamarindel

Lol, yes they are in New Mexico, I’ve visited their shop myself. Apparently Canadian Breakfast is really a thing? I’d never heard of it until about a week ago, but several tea companies make it. Anyway, NMTC stocks English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, etc., they are not particular that way ;)

Evol Ving Ness

hahaha, just like DF does all the Noels then.
well, this Canadian tea drinker is curious what Canadian Breakfast tea might be. I’ll look into it. Thanks!

Tamarindel

Lol, exactly. Well, I hope you can find a better version of Canadian Breakfast in Canada, because this one really isn’t worth the hype. The more I drink it the more I think English Breakfast knockoff.

Evol Ving Ness

Sad face. I couldn’t help but hope that it would be stellar.

Tamarindel

Totally! That one sounds much more interesting.

I was in the mood to try a plain, black breakfast tea, straight up pure. This tea isn’t bad, but it’s nothing to write home about. It tasted just like any other cheap breakfast tea except without nuances of flavors. For the price, $3.00/ounce, you can do better. For my money, I prefer Upton Tea’s River Shannon Breakfast Blend, Yorkshire Gold or even the old standard PG Tips. This tea is average and I will finish what I got, but it’s not a repurchase.

I wanted to give this tea try ever since I bought it a few weeks back, but I forgot about it, until today. So, I made a cup before work, and it’s good, but there’s something about it that was slightly off.

The tea itself smells great, and was very dark. However, there was a bit too much tannin. And honestly, it might’ve been the way that I steeped it/the water I used that made it taste that way; but, I’ll try it again. Although, once I added a few drops of half N’ half and sugar, it was very good (very malty and rich).

I like breakfast teas, so I got this. Originally, it was purchased in winter. The brew has a nice dark red/ amber colour. There is a lightly malty scent. That comes out in the flavour, along with slight sweetness. And it also nicely smooth.
