From Nature's Tea Leaf

Se Chung Tea is a blend of several loose-leaf, oolong tea leaves produced from plucks of several different plants. The leaves are naturally withered under the strong sun, oxidized until brown with green highlights, and then wrap rolled into small beads. The Se Chung Oolong tea has a roasted aroma and a thick, woody flavor. It is a great tea for those who enjoy a complex taste and have an adventurous palate.

Full review coming on http://sororiteasisters.com/ on the 29th but here are my snippits:

Sechong Oolong from Nature’s Tea Leaf provides a provocative and note layered cup. From mineral to woodsy, caramel, to chocolate notes, I find this tea to be quite enjoyable. Perhaps it is the mixture of many different plants that provides the multiple layers of flavor notes but I find it interesting and delicious.

The creamy, sweet, vanilla notes are present in both early and later infusions. The tea has a mild sweetness from this note, which is quite lovely and comes over as a rock sugar flavor.

Some fruity apple notes come forward melding with the caramel and rock sugar notes making me think of caramel and candied apples.

I really like the later infusions where the rock mineral and rock sugar notes come together – its such an interesting flavor and I can’t recall a tea I have had of recent that had this same profile. I am not saying they do not exist but rather it has been some time since I have enjoyed a cup like this and I am very much enjoying every infusion of this leaf!

Special thanks to Azzrian for this one!

It’s a nice Sechong! It’s been a while since my last cup and this was a nice welcome-back to the Sechong world!

It’s thick – like brothy or like a soup. It’s woodsy and slightly sweet and a bit vegetal – not like leafy greens but more like sweet peas, almost.

It has a pinch of creaminess to it too! A delight!

Alright…it’s oonlong afternoon for a little bit so that I can get through a few of the teas that i really need to at least try. Thanks again to Nature’s Tea leaf for this sample! I picked this one, not because I love oolongs (as most of you know by now, i dislike strongly) but because i figure someday i’ll find some amazing oolongs that rock my socks.

This tea? It’s not half bad for an oolong. It doesn’t have that overly vegetal taste that i can’t handle in oolongs, nor does the smell permeate my nose. Instead this is a bit darker, while not quite being a truly dark oolong. There is a sweetness, but it’s not overly strong. Overall a pretty decent oolong (high praise from me!)

I had no idea what to expect with this tea. Yes, oolong. But sechong has no meaning for me, so it was a mystery! My first impression was disappointment, because the little rolled balls look to be fading in colour (I expected a vibrant green) – but after brewing, it turns out it’s clearly a roasted oolong, so the colouring is exactly as it should be. Didn’t take good notes about the flavour, but it was pretty good. Light roastiness, nice sweetness. Apparently it’s a blend of a few different oolongs, which is interesting; I need to pay more attention next time. Overall, a pretty tasty cup.

Thanks to Nature’s Tea Leaf for the original sample, and Sil for passing it on!

I love Se Chung oolong! I have missed it ever since I sipped it down.

I literally didn’t know this existed until I ran across it in a box, haha.
