From Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A medium-strength tea touched with the sweetness of Jasmine and Bergamot. This green-black blend celebrates the beauty and history of Victoria, British Columbia, and Murchie’s flagship store on Government Street – a short carriage ride from iconic destinations such as the Empress Hotel, Parliament, the inner harbour, and Victoria’s Chinatown.

Originally blended: 2013

Green-black blends have been a Murchie’s specialty for over 100 years, and this recent blend is an exceptional example of that continuing tradition.

Wherever you are in the world, a sip of Murchie’s Government Street Blend Tea will transport you to a beautiful day on the waterfront in Victoria, British Columbia.

Another teabag selection from Murchie’s.

This one is lovely – it’s quite similar to the No. 10 Blend, which I also enjoy. They have mostly the same ingredients, but this has Darjeeling in addition to the Keemun and Ceylon black teas. I do taste the hay-like notes of the Darjeeling here, though I would have to try both teas side-by-side to know which one I preferred. This is just such a nice, mellow, easy-drinking tea for the afternoon. Quite smooth with a balanced flavor between the black and green teas, and discernible but gentle jasmine and a dash of lemony bergamot.

I’m already plotting another order, since they went and released two more seasonal teas a couple of days after I ordered (sob). I think some loose leaf of either this or the No. 10 will probably show up in that one… :)

I hate when that happens!

Their strategy seems to be to stagger their holiday releases for some reason…

Been gone a bit – busy! On the Richmond Symphony feedback board now – going to lots of events! Had a nice cuppa of this tea tonight. My mother had visited the Victoria store and had brought me a 4 pack of boxes ( also including Sugar Maple, Canadian Breakfast and Rideau Hall) as a gift when she visited me here in Virginia few months ago. Growing up in Alberta I drank alot of tea but had not heard of Murchie’s – there were no stores in the province at that time. How funny to discover a Canadian tea company now that I live in the US! This is a nice black tea which is a Ceylon & Darjeeling mix with jasmine and bergamot. The jasmine is quite substantial and is what makes this tea stand out. The bergamot is nice too. They are bagged teas so they’re not obviously on the highest tier of fanciness, but I certainly enjoy this blend with a bit of coconut or cashew milk. One bag, 5 mins steep, 210 F. Will reorder.

Please note – I have never drank this tea, and it is not a review really, so just skip this note if that bothers you.

However reading the description of this tea, I am sure I would like it. Mmmmmm, bergamot.

Bog standard black tea, a touch of green added. Tastes faintly of jasmine, but the bergamot is undetectable. Not pleased with this one, which is a shame. The concept is thrilling, but the execution lacking.
