From Mariage Frères

MF No. T436
Green tea from Nepal.

All the splendor of green tea from an organic tea estate.

The pure air of immaculate skies at the foot of the highest mountains in the world gives this green tea a fruity scent with overtones of green papaya. Its long, twisted leaves produce a golden cup that blossoms on the palate into a bouquet of white flowers.

Similar to a very lightly oxidized blue tea, Jade Himalaya is perfect with a meal.

A revelation.

How to prepare this green tea:

Measure out 5 g of tea for 20 cl of pure, filtered water.

Bring the water to a simmer (about 95° C) and let the tea infuse for 3 minutes.

This is a good green tea. While I often don’t drink green teas, this has a light astringency and leaves a really good taste in my mouth as I drink it.

Mariage Frères Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 11

Like Île des Dieux from day eight, this is a delightfully smooth and fruity unflavoured green tea! The tropical fruit note appears at the finish and morphs into something quite sweet (MF says papaya; I get more under-ripe mango). The website description likens this Nepalese tea to an oolong – and I can see that, but there are still plenty of notes that place it in green tea territory.

I drank this with a salty bowl of Indomie stir-fry noodles, fried egg, and shrimp – because I’m reliving my undergrad junk food favourites this morning. This tea elevates the crude meal in a huge way, and also cuts through the strong fat, salt, onion, and crustacean flavours. Classy, for a palate cleanser (and here I initially thought this tea was gentle).

Those noodles sound so good!

Indomie is solid, as far as instant noodles go :)
