From Mariage Frères

A secret estate in Ceylon, nestling between sun and moon, is where Mariage Frères has now revived a ancient Chinese tradition.

Women wearing fine gloves collect the sole pekoe (bud) of the imperial harvest with golden scissors, taking care not to harm the shoots. At no moment do the hands of the pickers—or of the planter—touch these leaves. The gloves prevent this risk, leaving the tea immaculate.

Pure of any taint, this white tea is low in caffeine and naturally contains more antioxidants than any other green tea.

White lacquered box with double lid welcomes 4 envelopes of 5g of delicate and immaculate white tea.

This is my first attempt at brewing this tea, and I followed Mariage Frères’ instructions. Honestly, this tea isn’t really impressive to me. It brewed to a pretty dark color for a white tea, and was proportionately heavy in taste- more body than I think I’ve ever experienced in a white tea. It was also not very aromatic. It was surprisingly woody, earthy, and only a little bit floral and fruity. I had a fleeting moment while sipping this tea where I had a very pleasant aftertaste linger in my mouth, but it disappeared as quickly as I became aware of it.

I will try different parameters next time. Even if it doesn’t improve, at least it came in a cute canister, and now I know I don’t need to be regularly spending too much money on this tea.
