The Day Lilly Oolong, known as Jin Xuan in Chinese and Milky Oolong abroad, is named after the grandmother of a great Taiwanese tea researcher. Dr Wu worked for the Taiwan Council of Agriculture, and spent ov 40 years perfecting this new cultivar, which has since achieved world fame and more than a few imitators.
The Character of Jin Xuan
True Milky Oolong is most certainly not flavoured with actual milk, as are the mainland Chinese knock-offs. Jin Xuan has become famous for its rich and creamy aroma, with a hint of vanilla. But each steeping brings out a different complex of flavors. The first brew has a smooth mouthfeel with a refreshing aftertaste. Subsequent steeps bring out its graceful sweetness. The poetic Taiwanese feel this tea is like a pretty high school sweetheart with stunning smile full of sunshine, energetic and lovely!
