From Lupicia

A deep-roasted Kaga Bocha to enjoy with milk. Its robust flavor is best enjoyed with milk.

This is another one I got in my swap with Cameron B.
Hojicha is one of my absolute favorite teas, with Hoji-Kukicha being even further up the list. So the idea of doctoring it with milk makes me nervous, but here goes. Okay, brewed it up extra strong and extra long while I heated up and frothed 3(ish) oz of soy milk.

Huh… it’s kind of nice. I think I would like it quite a bit if I had made it even stronger. Right now it’s a bit diluted by the milk, but the roasty tea goes surprisingly well with the sweet creamy milk. Defintely something I’ll experiment around with one of the many hoji-kukicha packages I have laying around. I actually just bought some hojicha powder so when it arrives I’ll have to try preparing it as a latte.

I actually haven’t tried this one with milk, but I enjoy it plain. :)

Another Lupicia sample courtesy of Dexter. This looks like it’s all roasted stems, so I guess that makes it a hybrid of houjicha and kukicha? Houji-kukicha? Anyway, the stems are brittle and are a light brownish tan in color. It smells very roasty.

Now this is a nice, roasty tea. It tastes like roasted nuts or something similar, and autumn leaves. And it doesn’t make my throat weird and scratchy like houjichas I’ve tried in the past. Hooray! Apparently I’m supposed to enjoy this one with milk, but I like it as is.
