This exquisite first-flush Darjeeling tea comes from the Arya Tea Estate which is certified as bio-organic. The leaves were hand-picked early on in the spring picking season of 2013 at altitudes of around 2,000 metres. This estate is well known for producing some of the finest tasting teas of the season, especially in the first-flush when fast picking and processing methods are critical to retain the delicate flavour of the young leaves.

This tea comes from clonal plants and is perhaps the finest Darjeeling we tasted from the spring harvest this year, certainly at this price. It is young, fresh and delicate – everything a first-flush tea should be from Darjeeling. Just looking at the colours of the leaves can tell you a lot about the quality of this tea. It is full of whitish tips and whole green leaves and infuses to a mellow, youthful brew with a hint of spiciness. An absolute must try for lovers of Darjeeling tea…

Like with all my Darjeeling tea-tasting sessions I only choose three words to sum up this gem of a tea: succulent, misty and complex.

The visual aspect of this clonal tea says a lot about the quality: twisted whole leaves with loads of whitish tips and buds. Posh as it gets.
