Elixir #9 (Peachy Oolong)

Interesting…I never wrote a note for this one, and I’ve had it for a while.

I like it. It is nice and light, and doesn’t make my stomach uneasy like several fruity-flavored teas do.

I’m trying to finish off a few teas before the new ones arrive—always an exciting task!

Holiday TTB

Sampling a few more things from this TTB before I send it on its way tomorrow. I love a good peach tea, so decided to give this one a go. The dry leaf is lovely with lots of big pink peach blossoms mixed in with the crinkled oolong leaves. It steeps up to a very pale green color with a light floral peachy aroma. Sipping, I do taste some peach (very natural-tasting, not that artificial candy flavor that too many peach teas have), along with floral notes and a hint of the base tea peeking through. Although I would have liked a stronger flavor, this was a very smooth, pleasant cup of tea.

My second blend from Mr L.P. Blends arent something i usually go for, perhaps having my experience spoilt by twinigs et al. ergh.

This, on the other hand, is a thing of beauty. It smells delish, and tastes as good as it smells, which is when usually (imo) fruity blend teas fall flat.

Peach, Honey, Sugar, Candy, with a slight green Oolong taste, with a lovely aftertaste and headfeel.

I brewed this western style, as I have never made iced tea before, but this is now spurring me on to try that as a next experiment.

Really very nice and will definitely be trying more blends after this. It worked very well for me western style at 90c 3 mins. i wasnt sure how much to put in because of the flowers but 4g worked a treat.

Tasting #1 – Steep Time 2 Minutes
Very light aroma at this point, just a hint of sweetness over the scent of tea. The flavor is very similar to the aroma at this point.

Tasting #2 – Steep Time 4 Minutes
More sweetness in aroma now and rich in color. The flavors have melded together now so the sweetness and the tea are in balance.

Tasting #3 – Steep Time 6 Minutes
Very sweet aroma, similar to a peach now. Not sweet like candy, but ripe and nutritious. The flavor is more in the preference of tea and the sweetness is in the aroma rather than the flavor.

I’m always reserved about flavored teas, they smell great but I don’t need any added flavors. This tea doesn’t compromise the natural flavor of the tea leaves but adds a light complexity with peach flowers. Kinda like a silver lining in your tea.

Anyway, brewed this one up this morning and shared it with my mom because she loooves peach. The presentation is beautiful, with some orange-pink petals laying on a bed of jade dong ding.

Peach is the distinct smell and flavor of this one, with some minor floral blossom accents in this clean, fresh cup. It reminds me of Georgia in spring. I did a ten second wash of it, sipped it, then decided it would be better western style. I brewed it the first time three minutes, and the peach was mostly in the aftertaste, and definitely lingered. It was a little bit light for me, but I really liked how refreshing it was. My mom loved it the way it was. On steep two, the dong ding (tung ting) really came out to sweeten the cup with it’s own peach like character. Afterwards, I did feel a little dehydrated, but I felt like I just ate a peach rind. The third steep is very floral, and more peach blossom than peach with some sweetness left over, though light.

It’s tea that my mom would purchase for regular drinking, and I might too. It’s a solid, good tea. I would rate it 88 based on my preference for slightly stronger teas, but when I’m in the mood for a light one, this one is perfect. My mom, though, would rate it as a 92. She likes her teas lighter, and this one is great for her. Steep two was the best.

I received this tea as a sample from Liquid Proust Teas. This was my first oolong tea. When I first opened the package, I loved the aroma. This is a green oolong with peach blossoms and flavoring. There is a subtle peach flavor that is not overpowering. Overall, the tea was very pleasant! I look forward to trying more oolong teas.
