This was the first thing I pulled out of the package Mitch sent me, and it sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try. It is quite a tasty green tea. Smooth and buttery but also quite light, but when I drink a flavored tea I tend to prefer if it’s a bit more flavorful. The Jasmine came through very lightly, and I didn’t taste the tangerine much at all. It was quite pleasant, but didn’t quite live up to it’s name for me.
I’m drinking this one just now. Also, it’s my 1500th tasting note! I bought this with my first Liquid Proust order, largely for the tangerine twist. I haven’t always been the greatest fan of jasmine pearls – many are too floral for my tastes, in a thick, mouth-coating way that I find pretty unpalatable. Not so here. I used 1 tsp of pearls for my cup, and gave them 2 minutes in water cooled to around 170 degrees.
The green tea base comes out first, with a deliciously smooth and buttery flavour with no bitterness or astringency to be found. The jasmine comes second, right in the middle of the sip, but it’s quite a light and delicate jasmine and not at all perfumey. The tangerine is confined mostly to the end of the sip – it just kind of pops up at the end as a bright, very slightly sweet citrus, with a touch of pithy flavour lingering in the aftertaste.
If I’ve one complaint, it’s that I’d have liked a bit more tangerine. It’s there, but I think the blend as a whole could stand it a bit stronger without losing anything. That’s a small complaint, though, because there is tangerine here and it works well with the green jasmine. I’d like to try this one cold brewed this summer.

Whatever green tea was used here, it has a very buttery, thick mouth feel with little to no bitterness. Both the tangerine and the jasmine are underneath the flavor of the green tea itself. The jasmine hints on the up front of the sip and the tangerine comes out more at the back end of the swallow. My mouth feels coated with delicious creamy green tea flavor.
There isn’t anything that stands up and demands attention. It is a very subtle and drinkable tea. I am ok with this. It is something you can drink and not have to analyze so closely.
Flavors: Butter, Citrusy, Creamy, Green
This tea has become my staple every day tea. I am just so in love with the citrus jasmine flavor. I need the warm comfort of this tea because I see a looming issue at work that I don’t want to deal with. Bleck!

Jasmine is a hard flavor to pair with fruit… I think the only other one I might even attempt would be peach. However, if I lose my mind I might try to make cotton candy jasmine pearls :)

I’m a big fan of tangerines (currently there are about seven in my fridge), so I’m definitely excited to try this blend especially given how much juicy tangerine I’m smelling just from the dry leaf. I decided to cold brew my sample because for jasmine teas with a green base I prefer drinking them cold over hot.
I definitely think this comes off as a pretty traditional green jasmine pearl tea; a good balance of both floral and vegetal flavours. It’s definitely one of the better green jasmine blends I’ve had as well given how natural and unobtrusive the floral notes are. However the tangerine, which is the twist here, is pretty light handed. The sweet citrusy tangerine note really only pops up at the end of the sip when the jasmine is dying out, leaving for a tasty finish but slight feeling that this tea is uncompleted. I know that Liquid Proust was aiming to be subtle with the tangerine but it is more gentle than I’d anticipated it being and I do find myself wanting more.
However, overall I really appreciate the unconventional take on a traditional tea. I also have to point out that as someone who isn’t a fan of green/jasmine pairings (which I recently mentioned in my Moment of Zen review as well) I’m obviously not the target audience and I was probably looking for that additional tangerine flavor more than someone who likes green jasmine teas on their own would have so that should also be taken into account.
