From Kiani Tea

2020 Spring Harvest, Fuding, Fujian Province, China

Once favoured by Chinese Emperors, White Jasmine Silver Needle is one of the finest teas in the world. Delicately crafted, the Silver Needles uses the freshest and sweetest spring-picked tea and is then scented with real jasmine blossoms, resulting in a refreshing and divine infusion with notes of sugared candy and intense jasmine perfume.

This tea is not flavored and contains no additives or oils. The scenting process works like this:

The silvertip white tea is laid out on bamboo trays and then covered with fresh jasmine blossoms over 6-7 nights in well-sealed rooms.

Each morning the flowers are discarded and fresh jasmine flowers are layered over the tea again. The downy tea leaves will absorb their fragrance overnight.
Around 6kg of jasmine flowers is used to produce 1kg of Jasmine Silver Needle Tea.

After opening your Silver needle Tea, it has a shelf life of 2 years.

Tea Notes

Appearance: Champagne hue

Aroma: Stunningly fragrant, jasmine.

Flavour: Floral (jasmine), fresh, sugared candy, perfume

Mouthfeel: Light and silky with a powdery finish.

Brewing Idea

3g of tea per teacup. (200ml) Boil water to 75℃ with good, filtered water. Pour over the leaves. Steep for 1 minute.

Makes a good second infusion. In fact, you can make several infusions if you increase the steeping time for each brew.

2 month backlog: I got a whopping 50 grams because I wanted higher end silver needle. I should add the tea to the database, but I want to write a quicky note. Don’t worry, I’m not writing a book or a novelette.

I like it. Jasmine and the cucumber, stone fruit, and light tea base are really well balanced, the needles are super furry. It makes a decent western or tumbler style tea, but best gong fu so far. You really have to abuse it for bitterness. Oddly enough, it became more bitter with sugar after a western steep for my mom, so there’s more to explore. I am a tea purist, but I’ve rarely had that happen.

A part of me wishes I got a little bit less of it, but I won’t have a problem sharing it and drinking it down this spring.

….
Back to the present, jasmine, nectarine, and cucumbers are heavy in flavor, especially stonefruit finish. Digging it, but I have to be soooo careful. It is forgiving, but not as forgiving as I used to think. I do like it a lot, but for some reason, I’m not in love with it.
