From Kally Tea

“Arrrgh, Hoist the main sails matey.” We are off on a sailing ship in the Caribbean. Pirates abound, treasure hunting, we land on a secluded shore, and notice the varied fruits and flowers on the islands. A thought hits us… let’s combine these tropical fruits with some tea in the hold! As the rum is ignored for the much more exciting and healthy tea blend of freeze dried pear, blackberry, lime leaves, sour sap fruit flavorings, the pirates are calmed and life is good. Let’s sneak off with the new found “treasure”… Arrrgh!

Ingredients: Black Tea, Freeze Dried Pear, Blackberry & Lime Leaves, Natural Flavors.

sipdown!

Cold brew of this one and it hasn’t changed my mind. While this isn’t a bad tea, its not really a tea that has a decisive flavour. Really not much else to say about it but bon voyage!

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea.

This is an adventurous tea – it takes the palate on an adventure. It is also quite different than I expected it to be. With a name like Tropical Island, I expected something pineapple or papaya or mango … or a combination of these flavors. But I didn’t get those at all.

The first flavor that I tasted was lime. It really stood out over all other flavors in the cup with the first two or three sips. After that, the blackberry flavors began to emerge, and I also began to notice the flavor of the black tea. After a few more sips, I tasted a sort of “sweet and sour” kind of taste, and I guess that’s from the sour sap? Soursop? I’m not real familiar with this fruit, as I tend to shy from things called sour. But, I’m liking it just fine here.

By about mid-cup, I notice a hint … very subtle hint … of pear.

A really intriguing cup that kept me on my toes. I like the challenge that this tea offers.

This flavour profile, it is SO FAMILIAR! What is it?? I can’t place what I’m tasting. Orange? but there is no rind in the blend. Maybe the essence of?
Definitely pear and blackberry, though I’m not sure how those would be tropical. Lime is certainly there. Must be the combination that gives it a fruity runt candy like taste. Oh oh!!! wait a second. It’s FRUIT PUNCH BUBBLICIOUS!!! YES! Ha, I beat you, you evasive flavour that reminds me of childhood. Wow. First time ever, I can truly say that I’m looking forward to making an iced tea. Gotta say, I’m a little giddy!
Trouble is, I’m not sure if its the throwback to the eighties that’s seducing me, or the actual flavour itself. Thus, I’ll let things marinate for a bit, and try it iced before rating.
Maybe I’ll make popsicles! :P

Flowery, slightly fruity; not for me. One serving left and this should be gone (I should have just brewed a larger mug today).

This one makes me think all sorts of things! There will be some good nostalgia stories associated with this one – at least for me – so be sure to keep an eye out for the extended review over at Sororitea Sisters :)

In the meantime…this is a neat one! The Blackberry and Lime shine thru more than the other flavors but when you all put it together it’s a winner!

How’s that for a teaser?

This was one of the teas I brought on my recent road trip. I thought a nice fruity tea would hit the spot once the temperatures started to rise, but I only made it through half the package before abandoning it for something else. The flavor wasn’t bad, it tasted somewhat like lychee, which is a tropical fruit, but not exactly what I was expecting. I’ll cold steep the last of this and finish it off once I get back to Saint Louis next week.
