Teas' Tea Green Jasmine

This doesn’t exactly taste like jasmine tea… must be the ascorbic acid. but pretty good if you need to pick up a bottle of tea at the store.

This is one of the few Teas’ Tea varieties that I haven’t tried (that I would want to) so when I saw it here at JFK I grabbed it for the flight. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. This tea is not for the floral faint of heart… it’s really jasminey, which means I’m a fan. The jasmine’s fresh though and not soapy or perfumey, with that flavor of honeysuckle sweetness (even though it’s unsweetened). There’s a bit of a bite from the green tea, which provides a nice, slightly grassy background. Definitely a tea I would readily buy again. (No rating because I dictated this review to my iPhone and the sliders don’t work.)

Smooth, with a strong jasmine finish that is floral, but tastes more fresh than fake/perfumey. Probably not the best choice with my lunch of roast beef and welsh rarebit over rye toast, but enjoyable nonetheless.

This isn’t bad if you are picking up a bottled tea. Now, I drank most of it with a meal of sticky rice and honeyed tempura chicken, so I didn’t get any of the green tea out of it. Even when I drank the last 1/4 there wasn’t any green tea flavor in it.

But the jasmine is a lovely aftertaste. It is a lot of jasmine, but I like knowing that it is there in an aftertaste. Really nice and refreshing. Pleasantly sweet as well.

I find that I don’t like this one quite as much as the traditional Jasmine Green tea from Ito En [in the round bottle]. This one is noticeably lighter in color and flavor and the ascorbic acid gives it an off taste that I don’t notice as much in the traditional variety. I find that I generally notice the ascorbic acid more in the Teas’ Tea varieties for some reason, I’m not sure why. I do like the design of the bottle better because I can fit more of them in my cooler.

Got 10 of these at $1 each at Stop & Shop this week! I used to pay $2.50 per bottle when I worked in NYC! I find each batch to be different – sometimes it’s more jasmine-y than other times. The batch I got now is more on the green tea side. The jasmine aroma hits you first, then as you drink it, the green tea becomes more prevalent in flavor. I’ve always purchased these teas because of how they smell – they are truly aromatic!

Iced jasmine tea is a bit of a rare bird, but I think it is underrated and this is a great example. I find it crisp and refreshing, and not overly floral or sweet. Easy to pound on a sunny day.

A little expensive, but worth it compared to the over-sweetened crap that fills the aisles.
