From Handmade Tea

Kiwifruit Cocoanut starts with a bold nutty Sri Lankan black tea base. Dried kiwi slices are added for a tart flavor and sweetness. Lastly shredded coconut and larger coconut bits are blended in adding light tropical notes and weight to the mouthfeel from the released oils.

Decided to have a lovely cup of this today. My mother is moving and told me to take a bunch of her old stuff and I found a cute little vintage sugar bowl.. So I took it :D Ever since I brought it home and put little sugar cubes in it I’ve been adding sugar and cream to my flavored teas… and honestly I feel kind of guilty about adding sugar and cream..
This tea is nice. I like the mouth feel it lends. Yes. I did add sugar and cream to this one. It’s ok. It lends sweetness to the coconut flavors and a bit of creaminess to the entire cup. I like it.

Have you tried this months? I just drove up to my moms to pick my package up and just open end it:) I can’t wait to see what kind f fall teas he has in mind

KallieBoo!

Not yet! I have to drive up to my moms to pick mine up, too! I’m excited though. I like this not really knowing what I’m gonna get.

BrewTEAlly Sweet

Ha ha what a coincidence

Sugar bowls and creamers are the best. They just seem to elevate the experience ever so slightly. :)

Agreed :)

Thanks, Nicole_Martin, for this tea!

I had this iced this week and it was very good! The kiwi was natural and very different from most of the fruit teas I’ve had. The coconut gave it a slightly roasted flavor although it was cold. I’m also enjoying the Handmade Teas bases. They are very warm-tasting. I look forward to trying this one hot.

Tea #12 from HHTTB2

I like seeing chunky pieces in flavored black teas. It’s like. Oh hey! This is what this is supposed to taste like. It somehow also reassures me that it’ll taste less like chemicals. And while that’s not always true, it’s still nice.

There are big chunky pieces of coconut and kiwi in this blend. As well as tinier shredded bits of coconut. And quite a bit of both, honestly.

In spite of all of that, the black base here is simply overwhelming. The black tea is strong and mildly astringent. The coconut lends itself to a thicker mouthfeel, but not much else. As it cools, there is a subtle, natural kiwi flavor that pokes through. Sweetener also helps it along, just as creamer seems to coax out the coconut.

I think, judging how the fruit flavors started popping in the tepid cup, maybe this would be better iced, and perhaps give a better balance of flavors.

This is the month of July’s tea. The dry blend is strong smelling back tea with large pieces of dried coconut and kiwi, as well as smaller shredded coconut. It smells very coco-nutty.

The brewed tea smells very strongly of the black tea. On first taste, all I get is strong, bold black tea. It is astringent, but in a good way. As it cools slightly, I get a lot of coconut flavour. And as it cools even more, I start getting a light kiwi flavour. The black tea remains bold but it starts to fade into the background a bit. The coconut was not super sweet like some other coconut tea blends, which was nice, it didn’t taste fake at all. I think this tea tasted best when the last few sips were at a luke-warm temperature. It was much more kiwi and coconut. I think adding some sweetener may bring out a more fruity flavour, but I honestly liked it just the way it was. Looking forward to trying this one iced.

Tea #6 Great Canadian Traveling Tea Box

Interesting, I don’t like this one as much as the lemon mint from earlier. What’s up with that. I’m not getting much kiwi, and hardly any coconut. This – to me – just tastes like a generic fruit black tea. If I didn’t know it was kiwi, I’m not sure that’s what I would have said it was. I’m getting a little bit of creamy, that could be from the coconut, but it’s barely there. In contrast the earlier tea that was light and bright with the specific flavors, this one seems heavier with muted flavors.
Glad to have had the opportunity to try it, not sure if that changes my interest in the company. Still have one more to try, will not give up on them.

Sorry you didn’t love it, but happy to hear you’re not giving up just yet :)

Alright, so i’m a coconut fanatic so I was really looking forward to this tea. I tried it hot on Sunday and I have to say I was disappointed. It just tasted like a plain black tea to me. As I let it sit the coconut peeked its way through, not all the way but subtly. No sign of kiwi tho and I even added an extra piece;). So I decided to cold brew it over night and I had it for lunch this morning at work and guess what?! I found the kiwi! It tasted like a kiwi coconut water and was not so bad. I really love the idea of Handmade Teas company and concept and I can’t wait for the months to come and the different blends to come:) Overall, not a bad tea. Not one that is a must have, but it was a good experience. Thank you Handmade Tea!

Boo, this tea sounds absolutely amazing! I’m sad it didn’t taste the same.

Tea #30 from the Here’s Hoping TTB

I’m not much of a kiwi fan, but this tea caught my eye because of the size of the kiwi pieces in the bag, they’re huge! I’m rather curious as to how much, if any, flavor they will contribute to the final brew, so we’ll have to see.

I was a little disappointed right off the bat because the black base is a bit astringent and rather strong. This is likely the reason why I couldn’t taste the kiwi or coconut. There is a bit of a creamy mouthfeel, perhaps from the coconut, but not much flavor is coming through over the strong base. Perhaps this would be better as a cold steep so the base doesn’t overwhelm the flavors.

Thanks for the sample Lala!
I had to add a bit of sugar for the flavour to emerge here. It’s a very mild coconut/kiwi note, but I really do like the base, so I don’t mind at all. A pleasant cuppa, to be sure. I’d consider ordering a small batch for myself one day. Also tried with milk and that was just as lovely. Malty, and well balanced.
Will hold off on rating as I actually drank this cuppa yesterday and my memory is a bit fuzzy on the deets. But going by memory, I think it’d be around 77 or so.

Lala

You’re welcome

The natural sweetness of the kiwi man this blend sweet enough for me but because of this review I tired it with milk and LOVED it! Thanks for the review :)

Brewed properly (ie. not in a contaminated strainer), I really love this tea. Solid black base with a little astringency and bright leathery notes, which are nicely matched to the sweet kiwi and creamy coconut. So far all the Handmade teas have been well-balanced to my palate—not too much of anything, usually exactly enough.

So far I’ve only had this plain & hot, but I think it would be great iced or dessert-style with loads of sugar and cream.
