From Haiwan Tea Factory ( Yunnan Sourcing)

This is a classic Haiwan production “深山老树” (lit. Remote Mountain, Old Tree). First offered in 2005 as a premium blend of tea leaves from Menghai area, it was later expanded to a premium ripe offering.

The 2018 production is a blend of previous year’s (2017) wet piled pu-erh from Menghai. It’s a blend of tips, medium and coarser tea leaves suitable for aging. The wet pile taste is present but hardly overpowering, though this would benefit from further aging (until 2020) if you are sensitive to wet pile taste!

500 Grams per cake (7 cakes per paper tong)

We thoroughly enjoyed this shou. So much so, we consumed two 500g cakes in short order.

I’m just starting to try some Haiwan ripes. This one was surprisingly good. The first steeps were a little rough, but it smoothed out very nicely. Just a touch of smoke. Very tasty!

Anyone have a favorite ripe from Haiwan?

008 Haiwan Supreme is a nice one or the 2012 Dragon Spirit.
