From Culinary Teas

What do you think of when you taste a Key Lime? Waves breaking along the coastline of southern Florida? Lazy summer days? Bright sunshine? The limes grown in the Florida Keys are one of the world’s best loved, and sweetest citrus fruits. When used as a garnish the juice of the Key Lime will brighten any dish or dessert. So when we started producing our flavored teas it didn’t take us long to try it in this fabulous blend. The tart and acidic qualities of the Key Lime beautifully compliment the astringent qualities of our high grown Ceylon tea. It goes without saying that this is a truly great dessert tea. Brew a pot, sit back and think sunshine.

Ingredients: Luxury black tea, Lime leaves, Freeze dried kiwi, Natural flavors.

Key Lime YUM! I LOVE key limes, even though they are an annoyance to get the juice out of. There’s a difference between normal limes and key limes. This tea isn’t lying when it says it has key lime! I love the lime strength, this is perfect. I really like the black tea in it, reminds me of a Nilgiri. Perfect for iced, which is how I made it. Puts me in the mood to get down to the Florida Keys and snorkel. When I make punches, I usually add tea, this tea would be a great addition to it.

If you are a Key lime addict like me, this tea rules.

1ST CUP:
Served: Iced
Amount: 6 tea bags
Brewed In: 2 cups
Cup Size: Quart pitcher w/ ice
Sweetener: stevia in the raw
Temp: boiling
Steep Time: 3 min

Notes:
Hmmm….I really want to love this tea iced, but I’m not quite there yet. Oh, I want to be there – don’t get me wrong and I’m pretty positive I will be…but I’m wondering if I over-steeped it or made it too weak for the pitcher. But it’s tasting a little astringent to me at the moment – or maybe it needed more sweetening?

So I say again…hmmmm.

Just a little bummed because I had my mouth all set for the perfect Tex-Mex experience for a native Tex who’s been away far too long from her Mex.

I spent the day marinating chicken, soaking Mesquite chips (mes-keet for you non-natives) for the grill, prepping the cilantro & jalapenos, crumbling the queso fresco, warmed up the corn tortillas…even found some Tejano music on Pandora and sat down to enjoy it all with a tall glass of iced key lime tea….and????….ehh.

The tea was off. Only slightly, but still off enough to foil the pinnacle of what was to be my Saturday night home grill extravaganza.

Hmmm…

Jane
