From Charbrew

Brought over from the Indian Sub-continent this Chai tea encapsulates the true traditional taste of this famous spiced tea in one single cup. This is a fairly average, run-of-the-mill black tea. I don’t taste many chai elements here, unfortunately. The ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom are extremely muted, and it seems as though all I can really taste is…well, sadly, cheap black tea. Perhaps this is black tea that was in the same room as chai spices at some point? A disappointment, to be sure.

I was bothered that it’s called “Chai Tea.” I cringed at the name. However, after having an inner ‘moment,’ I grabbed the sampler that this was in. What drove me to bulk buy the whole 64 count sampler was due to having a huge photo of the Mad Hatter on the box. Sure, I went into the purchase blindly, unsure whether the tea would be any good (I’d also gift it to my parents if I wasn’t happy…They drink Lipton. lol. Jk. Tea love is tea love) or not, but that’s the risk we take whenever trying new tea.

The aroma is stronger than the taste. I threw 2 bags in a 16oz mug, however, the tea seems weak. There are very very light notes of cardamom and cinnamon. It’s very watered down. I may try adding a third bag to the next cup to see if that changes anything. Otherwise, it’ll be sent to my parents for further enjoyment. My mom especially likes ‘not too spicy’ chai blends, so this’ll sit well with her.

I’ve definitely been suckered into buying a tea because the container was cute before – you’re not alone! Hopefully you can find a way to redeem this one.

I brewed it again with three bags this afternoon after shoveling snow. That definitely seemed to be the fix.
