From Canton Tea Co

Long Jing is one of China’s most famous and best-loved green teas but comes in many grades and it’s not uncommon for inferior teas can be passed off as Long Jing. This exceptional (and authentic) Long Jing is an outstanding example of a famous classic. Made from the first flush of small spring leaves, picked young and skilfully pressed by hand in a hot, dry wok, it produces a bright, lively tea with a bright, clear liquor. Brew it with care and appreciate several quick infusions as the character evolves from a fresh and sweetly assertive green bean flavour to a soft, sweet liquor with a long, pleasing aftertaste.

Our Buyer’s notes
“This is a really high quality Long Jing from a great tea farm where we’ve been buying tea for years.”

I am a big fan of Canton Teas, so it was with anticipation that I opened the packet of Superior Long Jing. And at once, I got the green bean aroma and the visual of the large flat leaves. Ah, Lovely. I tried brewing this two ways. The first way was with approximately a teaspoon of leaf per cup, brewed at about 165 for 2 minutes. This resulted in a nutty, buttery brew; quite enjoyable and a pleasure to drink. Then, after review the company web site, I tried brewing it with a lot of leaf at a very low temperature. This resulted in a more vegetal brew, very light yellow in color. It tastes less buttery and more like green beans. Very clean tasting, and also quite drinkable.

Of the two, I preferred the less leaf / higher temp steep. But either way, it’s a nice light, lovely green tea. A great example of this type of tea.

Found a packet of this at the back of the cupboard while looking for a green tea to cut the caffeine headache from too much coffee and not enough sleep this week. I think it arrived as part of my Tea Club membership (now lapsed). Anyway, it’s doing the trick. It’s light, chestnutty and the aftertaste goes on for a while. The liquor is almost clear and the dry leaf has a pork chop smell to it that I have noted before with other Long Jings. It is doing the trick, so I can get back to focusing on editing without coffee jitters. Yay! Boy, do I know how to live! ;)

Ok, re-steeping this brings an entirely new flavor. First of all, I got the chance to go on Canton’s site to look at their information about this tea. On their suggestion, I added a few more leaves to my pot and used shorter steep times. The result is a much lighter flavor than the one I had yesterday. It is hard to say if this is from the change in steeping or the fact that it is the second steeping for these leaves (or most of them anyway). I have very much enjoyed my experience with this tea, and look forward to more experimenting!

Right. Long Jing isn’t one of my favorites, but if I was forced to drink the stuff, this would be the tea I’d choose. Nutty, rich, slightly vegetal. Wonderful.

What a magical experience! It was my first time tasting a Longjing tea so I can’t really compare it to others but I loved it! It gave me a sensation of home, possibly because it had an aroma of a sweet corn & milk beverage I used to drink in my childhood. The tea is buttery, slightly vegetal & sweet (hits the spot), fresh and nutty. It’s the type of tea that I can drink at any hour of the day. I steeped it for 2.5 min at 70C and for the 2nd infusion, I steeped it for 5 min at 75C. The second infusion felt milder than the first but it was still great!

Canton teas superior Long Jing is one of the best i have had this year.
It is superbly smooth and balanced, i would say slightly more nutty than grassy, but essentially just beautiful balance and smoothness.
Lasts well into the 3rd infusion, leaf structure still nice and compact and with a strong nut smell after 1st and 2nd infusions.
It is twice the price of their standard grade but to be honest it is not only twice as good but gives twice as many infusions.

Pretty solid dragon well. Starts with nice vegetal/green flavors ends with a nutty note.
